Harry Potter actor in peril,
Harry Potter actor in peril, drivers might be fined £5000 and Jeremy Clarkson sneezes seem to be the clickbaits de nos jours.
In case you hadn’t heard, shock revelation that all publicity is good publicity:
Despite his colourful lament that the “fun police in their beige offices” had stifled his magnum opus — an ad featuring a choir of 34 farmers belting “F*** me, it’s good” to the tune of Delibes’ Flower Duet — the Advertising Standards Authority and Clearcast have both stated that they never received the ad in the first place.
Would love to know if the 34 who took part were paid. I’d be feeling a bit deflated if I hadn’t been and it was all a stunt.
Finally, I’m confused, is it now etiquette to take a drink and say “fuck me, that’s good”?

Union Jack dress girl: I
Union Jack dress girl: I think there’s more to come out about what has gone on here. For sure, the grifters have not been slow to try to make both revenue and capital out of it:
The Gofundme seems to have been pretty short-lived. I did catch a guy on a Facebook reel reading out the whole of the letter, second stanza of which was getting into All Lives Matter territory. At a practical level, I’m not sure what the indigenous white pupils are meant to do on a day like this; a bit like bringing in an example of British cuisine.
The rabbit hole also led me to this patch of historical illiteracy and present day confusion – tolerant, pluralistic, etc but you’re doing your darndest to take a wrecking ball to that:
“It doesn’t matter how many polls show the United Kingdom to be one of the most pluralistic, tolerant societies on the planet and far less racist than its European neighbours who somehow still summon the balls to sneer at Britons as bigoted retrogrades to be crushed under their metropolitan heels.”
We’re also OK because we got rid of slavery; not wishing to come over all Guardian reading metropolitan elite or anything, but out of a centuries long history “Prolific c18th slave trading nation takes decades to end the practice” would be a better headline.

Devon man ‘punished’ for trying to park at train station
Rail passengers at Tiverton Parkway say they’re being unfairly fined after being forced to park outside bays due to full car parks—sparking a growing backlash over rail-side infrastructure failures
Chris said: “It seems to me that GWR’s failure to provide adequate parking at a major rural railway hub and APOCA’s habit of regularly issuing parking fines to travellers for simply trying to catch their train might be a newsworthy story.”

OTOH, what do you reckon the scam is? Like is there maybe a stables, a smallholding or a landscaping business to provide some kind of fig leaf? It would be interesting to know what journeys he makes. Red diesel?

Fears grow as Brecon traders question town centre revamp’s impact
“The proposed changes to make it look pretty and everything are great – everyone agrees the pavements need attention and we need to smarten up the town – but taking away convenient parking used mainly by locals is terrible for business,” he said.
One of the most contentious aspects of the scheme is the removal of free roadside parking on High Street and the Bulwark, alongside a re-routing and narrowing of the carriageway.
Local traders say this could deter customers, especially those making quick visits or purchasing heavy items.
“My big issue is access for customers. Are they going to be prepared to walk from a car park to where we are?” he said.
“If you want to pop into town for a pot of paint or buy a large product, there will be nowhere to park just outside the stores, so people just won’t bother coming in.”

Arguing about a one hour
Arguing about a one hour tariff and of course people will go “elsewhere” if it’s too expensive to park.
Said a town traders assoc spokesman “after 2 years’ hard work, we managed to obtain a concession from Powys council that drivers can pay £1.50 to park for an hour instead of a minimum £2.50 for two hours. Now we look forward to a new era of prosperity as customers roll in, ready to buy” Another trader added “let’s hope we can now put behind us the era of paying £2.50 to park, which has done so much to stifle trade – the one hour tariff can’t come soon enough”

its as though there’s a gap
its as though there’s a gap in the law, and one that any conscientious government would want to set aside Parliamentry time to address. The law and HC are a bit vague on the point, of “I’m in my seventies, feeling a bit odd, the best thing to do right now is drive home 2 hours/ 80 miles.”
I guess drivers wanting to add to the list of why no action should be taken will be running the “surely what’s happened punishment enough?” argument. So yet another one-up for the idea of the consequence-free medical episode (see also: mechanical defect) driver free pass / it was unavoidable bank.
DVLA can of course revoke a licence on medical grounds, but you’d have to hope he gave it up voluntarily.
