You’ve been looking at those
You’ve been looking at those pesky Road.cc RRP reviews, haven’t you? The Hummvees can be got for less than £50. Even less of you shop around in your size.

You sound more like you want baggy, rather than aero? Can’t decide if you’re worried about money or not – them Exposure lights ain’t cheap.
I was a desk jockey when I commuted, so could safely charge up USB lights at work – can you? It’s another faff to remove them for anti-theft purposes. The most reliable light, if you don’t mind/ can internally route wires, is from a dynohub – it doesn’t get forgotten, not charged, is rarely stolen.
My Hummvees most be an earlier marque and hopefully they’ve now fixed the rather rough material that I found irritated the skin above my knee after a time. The detachable liner is very nice, but a faff for the busy commuter. The longs are brilliant all rounders.
base layers and gloves from Planet X – but stock is variable as ever. Mountain Warehouse are now one of the most accessible High Street sellers with some basic cycling kit.

why do we never get a
why do we never get a photostory of a driver clutching their police NIP or WL saying “what an outrage” and “I’m prepared to got to court over this” etc the same way as we do parking contravention letters?
Random thought on a wet Saturday morning.

Cheddar – I don’t distinguish
Cheddar – I don’t distinguish here between Tories and Brexit here – this is an example of how there is less money around and fairly minor costs, that in happier times were waived or absorbed are being passed on, a much harder line being taken. There is no reason why we have to accept the idea of everything getting steadily worse. Let’s hope Festive Night comes back in 2024.
More relevant to this thread, it’s just another example of the many costs that arise from cars that others have to meet or curtail their activities. One that will be played out up and down the land – it will of course get blamed on red tape, bureaucracy, etc.
Discussed before, the Royal British Legion seem to have settled an insurance claim where a Marshall was hit by a driver and my guess is the Cheddar event (below) is affected by the fallout.
This case, from 2018, is the one I think has brought all this about:

Royal British Legion guidance
https://counties.britishlegion.org.uk/media/6540234/200821-remembrance-parades-policy-update-final.pdf3. On the day of the Parade, TRBL and its volunteers must not engage in the deployment, management or removal of any TTMO. This includes, for example, placing barriers, directing traffic or driving vehicles that are involved in the TTMO.
There are other candidates for what caused this and of course drivers continue to be drivers around war memorials and remembrance events:

So anyway: Cars steal Cheddar festive night 2023
“The event, which has been running for over 20 years, sees crowds of thousands pack into Cliff Street for the festive extravaganza. The road is closed and shops open late. Stalls set up in the Cliff Street car park for the evening.
The tightening regulations mean the parish council needs to find additional volunteers to steward and marshall the road closures. Marshalls will also have to undergo training.
The costs of the event are also expected to increase. As well as the cost of the training, from next year Cheddar Parish Council will have to cover the costs of the administration of the road closures.”

Woman who’s had three cars
Woman who’s had three cars crash into her home this year calls for council to intervene
The council, she says, have told her nothing can be done because there haven’t been any fatal injury collisions and the damage done so far has been to property.
Essex Highways said they are taking the incidents “seriously” and have started working to make the area safer.
