    Stick with the credit card

Stick with the credit card approach on rim wear – there is such a wide range of wear indicators.  It should be a straight edge – if it dinks inwards, that is wear.

“The other thing which I think is unfortunate with this scheme is many schemes allow care workers, taxis and blue badge holders to go through bus gates but this doesn’t. Therefore I think life is going to be made unnecessarily tough for some people who are truly dependent on their vehicles. That seems to me unfair.”

    (full house!)

“There were fears of families being separated by road closures and significantly longer car journeys, as well as worries that it could put some people off moving to the area. One man simply told DevonLive: “I can’t get out of my house.”

I’ve always wondered about ground-nesting birds.  You see the signs up on gates saying take care.  Bringing it on themselves, I say, plenty of decent trees about the place*.

    * OK since the early neolithic those numbers have (mostly) been coming down, but that’s about 5000 years in these parts – plenty of time to move house to a decent area…

You mean like people who live on main roads?

Village FB exchange re the motorbikes that blast through our village* inevitably included the “don’t live there then” schtick. I hear them sometimes and I live a mile away – should I not do?

*I only ever hear them, never seen them but they sound very fast

I’m able-bodied and I frequently find an environment designed around cars an inconvenience at the best of times, and that would be without any actual cars.

Slater & Gordon – seem to be

Slater & Gordon – seem to be the best option.

if you read the Cycle magazine, it’s full of firms advertising and there is meant to be an CUK Incident Line:

    https://www.cyclinguk.org/member-benefit/cycling-uk-incident-line

I found a law firm through a no win / no fee referral service – you may have this bundled with other insurance policies.

Of course you must claim – but this is a lousy game all about money, as you’re already finding, that you’re going to be engaged in: Don’t die of fright if the driver claims off you and/or “witnesses” appear out of the woodwork. You should get a crime number from the police.

Are you sure you’re unhurt yourself? The system seems more geared up to bodily injury – the cost of replacing your bike is small beer in the injury scheme of things.

Without some independent verification you could be on to a loser here  – a witness, CCTV, or just a driver with a conscience ().

Don’t do with I did and contact the driver direct. I took my father’s bad advice, and got a ‘phone call from the police saying not to do that again.  That would be the same police that the driver lied her head off to about what happened.

    Absolutely done with

Absolutely done with constantly living my life in a way that doesn’t upset a driver:

“Although few buses use the lane, its arrival has caused problems for motorists – especially at rush hours.”?

    It’s people’s ability to

It’s people’s ability to blank out things they don’t want to hear that really interests me here – in this case, until the wheels have turned and it’s (probably) too late.

Any species that didn’t react to signs of change in their environment (eg food / water supply, predators) would not be well favoured by natural selection.

Army of Exeter residents kick off at road closures plan

Point well and truly missed below – although the disabled lady’s story is a challenge.  If only we could set a simple respected rule that allowed her to drive where others cannot.

“When the changes come in we will only be able to turn left and come along Whipton Lane onto the main road to get to Whipton. I go to Whipton two to three times a week and my journey will now be three miles instead of 1.1 miles.”
