45 minutes to get across town by car, you say? Poor old drivers, fleeced at every turn.

‘Amateur dramatics’ fail to
‘Amateur dramatics’ fail to impress M6 cops who uncover big haul
The driver was stopped for being on his phone
A spokesperson for the team said: “The driver tried his best amateur dramatics – pretended his wife was in labour and he was rushing there. He provided false details, hoping we would leave it there – we weren’t born yesterday. What we then found was 50,000 counterfeit cigarettes in the boot and the driver to be disqualified and without insurance. The cigarettes have been seized on behalf of HMRC. The driver has been reported to court for driving offences. Nice try.”

Truro traffic hell that never
Truro traffic hell that never seems to end is just the beginning
Our exasperating experience and delays one morning this week in the chaos makes us feel like the misery is never ending
To those who will moan that people should ditch their cars and take the public transport available or use the park and ride schemes, well, where do you think the buses go? That’s right, they use the same roads the cars do. They end up in the same traffic jams.
On a good day, outside of rush hour, the journey through the city and out at the other end by the A30 should take 20 minutes. Today, including the tail end of rush hour, it took close to 45 minutes – and that was a good day.
Olivier’s been allowed by his editor (if they still have those) to go on a one man rant – but I don’t think I can do better than kernowmaid67 22 HRS AGO
Mmmm, sensationalist headline even by CL’s standards. “Horror” and “terrifies” in the same sentence, just over some roadwork inconvenience. Me thinks the reporter needs to get out more and get some proper life-experience.

Car sinks into sea near Sandbanks Chain Ferry
It was reported the car went into the water at around at 5.13pm from the carpark approximately 50 metres adjacent to the ferry ramp at Sandbanks.
An eyewitness said she was on the ferry but did not see the car initially enter the water.
She said members of the public rushed to help the man in the car.
She added it appeared the sole occupant was “pulled out” of the vehicle through the sunroof before it submerged.

As a bit of an aside, all
As a bit of an aside, all this talk of flooding in the fens has coaxed this 1974 BBC education programme, Cloudburst, out from the edges of memory. The story got, as I recall it, quite scary with the bleak fenland landscapes and all that Radiophonic Workshop music spangling away.
In our first instalment, the two kids are off on their bikes to the old airfield, in that carefree way that also sits at the edge of memory, to fly their model aircraft. What could possibly go wrong?

Can this lot succeed in
Can this lot succeed in delivering a family-friendly anti immigration march and masking the inherent thuggery? No alcohol, drugs or swearing, please.
Ukip leader Nick Tenconi expected to join anti-immigration march in Rochester and Let’s Talk About The Flag meeting held in Rainham
The protest on October 18 is being organised by Roger Hogg, a member of UKIP, and will begin opposite Rochester railway station at 1pm.
Mr Hogg, who also organised the Maidstone ‘stop the boats’ march in August, says he wants the march to be a peaceful demonstration against the government’s policies and a show of pride in the United Kingdom.
He said: “We’re marching because of the state of the country. I’m 37 and I have never seen the UK struggling as it has been right now.
“The point of the march is to bring the nation together and make clear that the situation has got to change.
“We have had an influx of people coming into the country, and it’s out of control, it’s got to stop.
“I hope people can come down and have a fantastic time as a community and say to the government we’re not happy with the way things are.”
He also wants the event to be suitable for families and to avoid any sort of disorder which has been seen in some areas of the country.
He continued: “We want this to be as peaceful as possible, so we have a zero-tolerance of drinking alcohol, taking drugs, or wearing facemasks or coverings at the march.
“Anyone who breaks any of those rules will be asked to leave because it’s not what we want this event to be about.
“We also ask people attending to watch their language, which will be a bit harder to police, but because we want this to be family-friendly, we want people to avoid swearing.
“We want this to be something for everyone to enjoy and have a nice day.”
The UKIP leader, Nick Tenconi, could also be in attendance if his schedule permits, Mr Hogg says, but there will also be singalongs and attendees are welcome to make speeches.
