Let’s see what the police come up with, but this story doesn’t sound especially believable.

    Since we’re now into Poppy

Since we’re now into Poppy Rage season* I thought I’d see what updates there were for this thread.

*Penarth – seems a shame that putting flags up on lamp posts has been allowed to become an emotive act over the past 3 months or so – maybe someone should have done something about this sooner? https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/fury-as-poppy-sellers-abused-by-left-wing-idiots-in-uk-seaside-town/ar-AA1PyTa0

    Mechanical failure?, medical

Mechanical failure?, medical episode –  where’s my “ah well, never mind” box?

Steering fails as car crashes into gates of listed gardens

The 3m high oak gate to Caversham Court Gardens in Church Road was taken off its hinges and smashed in the incident, which occurred at about 6.10am on Thursday last week.

It is understood that the steering wheel of the car involved “locked up”, causing the car to continue on into the gardens.

Councillor Isobel Ballsdon, who represents Caversham Heights at Reading Borough Council, said the car then mounted the soil embankment over a Second World War air-raid shelter, before it became lodged against the pillar next to the side gate.

Here’s the Google view inside the main gate, the mound of the old air raid shelter (now houses water board equipment) and, not content with all that, hits the other gate behind. All with “locked-up” steering.

    It’s a double punishment,

It’s a double punishment, arguably, but a lot of professions would sanction a member for this sort of thing, but I guess it doesn’t work that way in the kickball.

There does seem to be a

There does seem to be a pattern of people leaving / being removed from Reform local party groups – and setting up little Independent groups.

EDIT – My point being that removing them from Reform (not least when others are quitting!) doesn’t make them quite as politically “finished” as you might hope. Moreover, they are now outside the original tent pissing in, probably with some knowledge of where best to aim – any leader thinks carefully about this before cutting group members loose.

Good point, you can’t carry your 3 kids, their cello, piano, pony and half a ton of aggregate which most people *have to drive* around on a daily basis.

Although you would be able to use it to visit said pony when it develops colic in the small hours because presumably the Tyre Extinguishers would spare you from their nocturnal attentions.

Are we to assume the woman who needed hospital treatment was the driver of the car?

I can understand the BBC don’t want to overstate the facts, so they might not be able to say something along the lines of “the woman lost control of the car she was driving, because she was speeding and driving recklessly, probably whilst off her tits on drugs”, no matter how likely that scenario is. But surely they could at least factually state whether the woman was the driver of the vehicle, a passenger in the vehicle, or an innocent bystander on the street.

Welcome to Car Crashes into Building.  While cyclists are at least on social media always guilty until proven innocent, drivers are, of course, innocent until the charges are dropped or Exceptional Hardship is established.

    Gosport Police seize two cars

Gosport Police seize two cars for having no insurance

They discovered the driver had no valid insurance, so the car was taken away, and the driver called their partner for a lift.

When the partner arrived, officers found their car also had no insurance.

    Good old Lee, never lets

Good old Lee, never lets facts detain him for a moment

the Invacar, a three-wheeled vehicle for disabled people that was withdrawn from UK roads in 2003 due to safety concerns. The government recalled and scrapped the remaining government-leased vehicles after they were deemed unsafe following high accident rates, poor handling, and a high complaint rate.

Safety concerns: The Invacar was banned from public roads because it was considered unsafe, with issues including a tendency to overturn and catch fire. Studies, such as crash tests in 1974, highlighted its poor safety performance.
Government action: In 2003, the UK government ordered all remaining government-leased Invacars to be recalled and scrapped due to the safety issues
