The Lemmo 3 full-suspension longtail SUV e-bike has absolutely smashed its Kickstarter funding target, raising over US$1 million in pledges in a little over a day. In sterling, the figure currently stands at nearly £900,000 – well over 5,300% of the (admittedly conservative) target, with four weeks to go.

Based in Berlin, Germany, Lemmo began the initial design and blueprinting of the aluminium Lemmo 3 back in 2023. Since then, it has been through prototyping and five generations of development.

One of the key features is the rear suspension, which Lemmo describes as “a breakthrough in comfort for rear passengers”.

“80mm of travel, hydraulic damping and a high-load spring work through Lemmo 3’s innovative decoupled frame architecture – delivering true rear suspension without compromising load capacity or stability,” says Lemmo.

You also get tyres that are a whopping 65mm wide, an 80mm-travel front suspension fork that’s designed to keep the ride smooth across various road conditions, and a suspension seatpost.

“This innovative quick-adjust seatpost combines effortless height adjustment with 20mm of suspension travel, adding an extra layer of comfort – especially when riding without cargo,” says Lemmo.

The hydraulic disc brakes are controlled by a Combined Braking System (CBS).

“Pull either brake lever and braking power is distributed to both wheels for shorter, safer, and more stable stops,” says Lemmo.

How does it ride?

“Compared with a front-loader cargo bike, which typically takes more skill to handle, Lemmo 3 feels closer to a standard mountain bike, with more familiar steering and easier manoeuvring, parking and storage,” says Lemmo.

The Lemmo 3 is said to be suitable for riders from 155cm to 195cm tall. You can easily adjust the stem angle and height and raise or lower the seatpost via a quick-release lever, so various people can use the same bike.

It comes with a 700mm-long modular rear platform with MIK HD compatibility that’ll carry up to 80kg, a front rack that’ll handle 20kg, and a range of accessories.

The Lemmo 3 is equipped with high and low beam lights, an automatic brake light and turn indicators. You also get a rear radar with screen alerts and audible warnings to tell you what’s approaching from behind.

Go for the chain-drive system and the rear derailleur will provide auto-shifting.

“Built on the professional-grade electric derailleur, Intelligent Auto Shifting delivers control-free, ultra-smooth, precise gear changes,” says Lemmo. “Multi-sensor data – including torque, cadence, speed, incline and rider preferences – feeds an adaptive AI model that selects the optimal gear in real time, creating a natural, responsive, and effortless ride.”

You can intervene at any time using the physical shifting controls. Manual input has priority over the automatic shifting algorithm.

Or, if you prefer, you can go for a belt-drive system that uses an internal three-gear hub.

In terms of security, the Lemmo 3 is equipped with a frame lock and battery lock, and a folding lock is available as an optional accessory. There’s also a motion detection alarm, passcode access to the touchscreen, and built-in GPS tracking.

What about the power? That comes from a Bafang rear hub motor – the H550 on chain-drive models, the H732 on belt-drive options – that provides up to 90Nm of torque, while the 960 Wh semi-solid-state battery is said to provide a range of up to 110 miles.

To be in line for a chain-drive Lemmo 3, you need to pledge €2,090, which converts to about £1,743. It’s €169 (about £141) extra for the belt-drive model. There are a couple of other bike-plus-accessories options. These figures cover import duty, but you’ll also need to pay 20% VAT to bring it into the UK, plus the cost of shipping (€100-150).

As we always point out, pledging money through Kickstarter isn’t the same as buying goods through a retailer in that rewards aren’t guaranteed. However, we can safely say that Lemmo 3 will achieve its funding target when the campaign ends on 1st December. Shipping to backers is expected to start in May 2027.
