E-bikes have, up until recently, looked more or less like unpowered bikes. They are technically motorbikes though – bikes with a motor. The Urban Drivestyle UNI Viper is the latest to offer more of a moped or motorbike look while retaining the standard e-bike top speed of 25km/h (15.5mph).

We reviewed the Eskuta SX250 recently, which is a very, very moped-looking e-bike aimed at delivery riders.

We also reported on NIU’s SQi a couple of weeks back, which looks like a chunky futuristic motorbike, but is in fact a 25km/h e-bike.

The Urban Drivestyle UNI Viper offers a different look again – more of a motocross style.

The thinking seems to be that there’s a whole, largely-untapped market for a bike that looks and feels like this.

The Viper features full suspension and 20×4 inch tyres. There’s also that motorbike-style bench seat that will look a lot more inviting than a bike saddle to many people.

Clearly this is a robust bike, but that can come at a price when you’re limited to a 250W rear hub motor. It’s a lot of bike to shift about.

There’s an acknowledgement of this with the 828Wh battery. This would be gigantic for a more typical e-bike, but it translates into unremarkable range of 80km here.

You can currently order the Viper with a €990 deposit on a full price of €2,990.

A look through the Urban Drivestyle website reveals they rather specialise in these sorts of e-bikes.

Alongside more conventional-looking e-bikes and e-cargo bikes, the German firm’s other offerings include the UNI MK…
