Spanish bike brand Orbea has launched a rather interesting e-bike called the Muga. It’s defined as an “adventure-ready urban explorer bike”, which we’re taking to mean it can be ridden basically anywhere except a trail centre.

It apparently takes inspiration from Orbea’s mountain bikes, with a full-suspension setup and a Bosch CX mid-drive motor. It reminds us a little of the Specialized Turbo Tero X and the Canyon Pathlite:ON 9 LTD SUV, as they were both full-suspension frames – although marketed as SUV’s rather than ‘urban explorers’.

Is the tagline for the Muga. It’s been too long since my last caffeine hit for me to be able to comprehend what that slogan means, but I’m sure it’ll inspire the right people.

The Muga comes with 115mm rear and 120mm front travel, with Fox suspension taking the load. It’s also a mullet wheel setup, which means it comes with a 29in option at the front and 27.5in at the rear. This is to help keep it stable off-road, and apparently, to remain agile “even when fully loaded.”

Orbea has used its Adjustable Cockpit, which offers four handlebar positions, including a more upright ‘urban’ option, and one more ‘trail-focused’. You’ll also find a dropper post lever at your fingers for use when descending or stopping at the traffic lights to lower or raise the saddle height.

The Muga uses Bosch’s CX motor, which isn’t typically a motor seen on many urban e-bikes. It also comes with a 600Wh battery or 750Wh for those wanting more range. You can also add on the PowerMore 250Wh Range Extender if you’re doing a super long ride.

The battery is locked inside the down tube using Orbea’s Secure Battery System, which the brand says helps to remove weight and keeps it safe from damage or theft. Instead, thieves will just take the whole bike, right?

Okay joking aside, it does look like a pretty useful bike. You can add on an optional front rack which can take up to 10kg to complement the included rear rack, which supports up to 30kg. This uses the MIK HD system so you can add on a child seat or bags with a click.

Mudguards are already on there, and can accommodate mountain bike-width tyres. There are also several mounting points on the frame which make it more appealing to bikepackers. The alloy frame is not the lightest option, but in terms of durability it’s hard to beat.
