Fizik Vento Vega Carbon

Buy from Sigma Sports for £389.99

Fizik has long been known for its sleek, narrow, Italian-style cycling shoes, but the new Vega Carbon marks a shift – combining the brand’s signature stiffness and performance with a more accommodating fit and roomier toe box, making it a genuine option for a wider range of riders.

Reviewer Sam said: “The Fizik Vega Carbon is a statement shoe: incredibly light, brutally stiff, and finally offering a fit that works for more riders. The wider toe box and sock-like entry make them welcoming even for those with wider or higher-volume feet”.

With dual BOA Li2 dials, a full carbon sole, and an Aeroweave upper, the Vega Carbon delivers top-tier performance without quite reaching the eye-watering price tags of its most exotic rivals.

Castelli Espresso Air Jacket

Buy now for £129.99 from Merlin Cycles

Castelli Espresso Air Jacket

The Castelli Espresso Air Jacket takes a different approach to winter cycling jackets: it’s designed to be warm and very breathable but not to be waterproof, and it delivers on that purpose exceptionally well.

Castelli found that many riders simply don’t cycle in the rain, which allowed the brand to prioritise warmth and breathability over waterproofing with their new Ristretto fabric.

The Espresso Air Jacket includes a non-PFAS (‘forever chemical’-free) Durable Water Repellent coating, but if you’re expecting more than a light shower or some road spray, you’ll still want a proper waterproof layer on top.

A sub-1,600g, deep-section carbon wheelset for £649 is an outstanding deal – and that’s exactly what the Scribe Inception 50+ Disc delivers.

The rims are constructed from Toray’s T700 and T800 grades of carbon fibre, they’re 50mm deep and have an external width of 34mm. More importantly the internal width is 24mm, which is compatible with tyres from 28-50mm.

Scribe doesn’t claim these are the fastest wheels out there, but for the price they’re a superb upgrade to the stock wheels found on a lot of bikes – and they even come with a three-year warranty.

Canyon has revived the sub-£1,000 road bike category with the Endurace AllRoad, a genuine all-rounder offering impressive spec and ride quality for the money.

It has a good quality frameset with 40mm tyre clearance, Shimano’s reliable and user-friendly Cues groupset with powerful hydraulic disc brakes, dependable wheels, and tyres that don’t need an immediate upgrade.

Reviewer Stu said: “Canyon has hit the nail on the head with this one, and whether you are a new rider looking for your first road bike, or a seasoned rider looking for something to commute or train on, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the Endurace AllRoad”.

OnGuard RockSolid 8590

Buy from Certini for £139

Scoring joint-highest in our lock round-up, the OnGuard RockSolid 8590 proved impenetrable to our angle grinder and bolt cropper-equipped “thief” (aka Dave). After several months of real-world testing, reviewer Rebecca said she’d be hard-pressed to find a better D-lock on the market.

At 1.3kg, the OnGuard RockSolid 8590 isn’t the lightest D-lock out there, but the extra weight feels like a fair trade for the protection it offers. It rivals locks that cost £100 more and weigh an extra kilo, while remaining simple to use – the shackle detaches completely, making it easy to position around your frame and chosen anchor point.

Good news – at the time of writing, you can get £60 off at Certini.

Elite Custom Race X resin cage

Buy now for £13 from Sigma Sports

You might be surprised, but not all pro riders opt for carbon fibre bottle cages. Elite’s £14.99 Custom Race X resin cage is a favourite in the WorldTour thanks to its reliable performance and secure bottle retention.

Elite has long led the way in bottle and cage design, and the Custom Race X is the latest, lightest iteration of the Custom Race series, shedding 35% of the weight from its predecessor to 30g. For a resin cage, this is light, while still offering a robust feel.

It also looks the part, with a sleek design that complements modern carbon bikes and with ten colour options, most riders will find a good match for their setup.
