Winter warmth and visibility are the main themes of this week’s Five Cool Things featuring new Look pedals with the Keo Vision light system, a Castelli long-sleeve jacket claiming 12x more breathability than the Gabba, Shimano winter cycling shoes plus a reversible jacket from Galibier and on more of a pure perfromance note the “lightest 3D printed saddle” from Selle Italia. Here’s a quick look at the key details before the full reviews land on road.cc in the coming weeks…

> Best clipless pedals

Look has recently launched the Keo Vision light system for road pedals, and we have a pair of the Keo Blade Carbon Vision pedals in for testing, so keep an out for a full review from Paul Grele soon.

The pedal specialist claims Keo Vision lights are more visible than a light mounted at the seatpost, and will be selling them fitted to existing Look Keo pedals, or as a kit to fit them yourself.

The lights are fully integrated, rechargeable and easily removable, and available on the Keo Blade Carbon Vision pedals for £249.90.

> Choose the right saddle for you and your riding

At £409.99, the Selle Italia SLR 3D Carbon saddle is very, very expensive, but the Italian brand claims that it “takes comfort and efficiency to the next level”.

It retains the brands familiar SLR shape, now with a 3D printed lattice structure and carbon rails. Selle Italia also says it’s the lightest 3D printed saddle available, and at 146g on the road.cc Scales of Truth, the weight is certainly impressive.

Tom Weijand is putting it to the test, so check back soon for his full verdict.

Castelli DO.DI.CI. long sleeved jacket (£250)

> Conquer the cold and rain with one of the best cycling jackets

If you’re a fan of Castelli’s Gabba but ride mostly in dry conditions, the brand says the DO.DI.CI. is designed for you. While the Gabba prioritises water protection, the DO.DI.CI. is claimed to focus on airflow for better breathability on dry rides.

Using Castelli’s Ristretto technology, the fabric is said to be mostly windproof while allowing small amounts of air through, carrying away sweat to help keep you drier.

DO.DI.CI. means “twelve” in Italian, reflecting the jacket’s 12× greater air permeability than the classic Gabba, according to Castelli. Neal Hunt is putting this claim to the test.

Designed for winter commutes, bikepacking, and general mountain biking, Shimano’s EX700 Gore-Tex Cycling Shoes are “built to see you through the worst of conditions in comfort.”

They feature Gore-Tex waterproof protection, a neoprene ankle structure for more coverage, and a BOA dial for adjustments. As their aimed primarily at winter commuters, bike packers and mountain bikers they’re designed to take the classic two SPD-style mountain bike cleats rather than three bolt cleats for road pedals.

They are available in EU sizes 40-48 and our test pair in size 42 weighs 816g.

Galibier is known for great-value cycling kit, and the Colombière Pro Jacket takes this a step further. It’s reversible in grey and orange, giving you two jackets in one (well, if you like both grey and orange) that could work for both riding and everyday wear. Whether that also means you can get longer out of it between washes we’ll have to wait for the review to find out.

The jacket is said to be a lighter version of Galibier’s standard insulated jacket and features 100% recycled insulation and a Durable Water-Repellent (DWR) finish for added protection in wet conditions.

Check back soon for Alex Bowden’s full verdict.
