Rapha is offering Gore-Tex waterproof and breathable jackets for the first time: the Pro Team Lightweight Gore-Tex Jacket, the Pro Team Insulated Gore-Tex Jacket and the Explore Hooded Gore-Tex Jacket.
Review: Rapha Pro Team Lightweight Gore Tex Jacket
The new Pro Team Lightweight Gore-Tex jacket (main pic and below) uses Gore-Tex ShakeDry fabric (as used in the Gore C7 Gore-Tex ShakeDry Stretch Jacket that we reviewed, for example) which is a two-layer construction with the waterproof membrane on the external facing.

There’s no outer layer on top of the membrane to become saturated, the idea being that rain water and road spray simply bead up and roll off the surface.
“The extremely breathable fabric allows a high degree of exertion without overheating, ideal for the fast race conditions experienced by pro-level riders, while the 49gsm (grams per square
metre) Gore-Tex ShakeDry fabric is incredibly light and packable, allowing you to keep your protection on hand at all times in case of sudden showers,” says Rapha.
Men’s and women’s versions are available for £220.

The Pro Team Insulated Gore-Tex Jacket (£320, no women’s-specific version of this one is available) also uses the ShakeDry fabric, this time backed with PolarTec Alpha, a lightweight synthetic insulation developed for the US military (it’s true!).

We know from experience that this material, which is already used in a range of Rapha products as well as in those of other brands, offers a high warmth-to-weight ratio.
This jacket also uses Gore-Tex Stretch material in its storm hood, on the lower back and at the cuffs for a close fit.

The third jacket, the Explore Hooded Gore-Tex Pullover (£250, available in men’s and women’s versions), is a quarter-zip design that uses Gore-Tex Active lightweight three-layer fabric.
“The Pullover offers a relaxed fit and soft next-to-skin feel to provide exceptional comfort both on and off the bike, and regardless of what you are wearing underneath,” says Rapha.

The elasticated hood is designed to be worn with or without a helmet.
All three jackets feature taped seams, secure closures, vents and elasticated cuffs.
Our man Dave Arthur has been using each of the three models over the past few weeks and we’ll have reviews up on road.cc soon.
In the meantime, get more details over at Rapha’s website.
