Black Mountain have launched two new kids’ bikes with their trademark ‘growing’ frame technology, the Kapel and the Hütto. These ones have gears, and are recommended for children who need a bike to help them gain confidence and develop their skills while getting used to gears for the first time.
Review: Black Mountain Pinto
18 of the best kids’ bikes
The Hütto has 20″ wheels, and described as “the ultimate bicycle for a child to develop their riding on.” You can change the size of the cockpit and the frame itself as your child grows, and there is also the optional balance bike kit that can be fitted if your child is struggling with balance or mastering pedalling.
The Hütto comes with seven gears, operated with a twist-shift, and weighs in at 8.3kg. You can even opt for a cable disc brake version if you think your child requires sharper braking.

The Kapel has largely the same tech and components as the Hütto but rolls on 18″ wheels, and is recommended for kids aged 5 and up. It weighs a little less at 8.1kg and colours available are orange, green, purple and blue.
If you think either the Kapel and Hütto look like they’re just the job for your little ones, they will have to be on their best behaviour… the Kapel is priced at £449, and the Hütto starts from £449, going up to £549 with disc brakes and £649 for the Trail version. head over to Black Mountain’s website for more info.
