Not too deep in to the road.cc archive for our first of the new look bike at bedtime feature, but a bike that’s pretty timely with the 101st Giro d’Italia just having ended. It’s Merida’s special gold – well, goldish tribute to 100 years of the Giro as spotted by us at last year’s Eurobike… okay, six month’s after the race but we got their eventually.
The bike was made for Vincenzo Nibali as the Bahrain-Merida rider to get him in the mood as he attempted to win his third Giro d’Italia in a row. It’s a team issue Scultura – Merida’s lightweight race bike – and what set it apart is the ribbon of gold leaf that it is wrapped in bearing the names of all the previous winners of the race. The gold band is supposed to echo the look of the Giro trophy, mmm… yeah I suppose. Nibali rode it during the race – which was won by Tom Dumoulin. Oh well.
If that’s whetted your appetite for more Merida Scultura related info you can find a whole slew of it here
