When we headed to Rapha HQ a few weeks ago to hear about the brand’s plans for the future under new CEO Fran Millar, one of the points made was it would be ‘coming off the discounting drug’ and selling far less kit at heavy reductions. Well, luckily for us, that apparently doesn’t include Black Friday, or hasn’t come into effect yet, as up to 50% off is available across the website.
Whether you’re after Pro Team or Core winter kit, if you’ve been waiting for a Rapha sale, your time has come.
A great-value road bike gets even cheaper: Boardman SLR 8.6 down to £520
One of our favourite sub-£1,000 road bikes out there, the Boardman SLR 8.6 comes with a ‘road.cc Recommends’ badge, such was the extent to which it impressed Simon when he got to grips with it during testing.
It was a great deal at £650, but at the £520 Black Friday price it would make an even better first road bike, commuter, or winter bike. Both the men’s and women’s models are dropped £130 this week and represent the pick of Halfords’ bike-related Black Friday deals.
It’s an alloy frame with carbon forks, Shimano Claris 8-speed groupset, rim brakes, a nice wide 11-32t rear cassette, Boardman wheels and 25mm Vittoria Zaffiro tyres.
Up to 43% off Specialized road bikes (but you'll probably find similar deals with other retailers)
Not quite as budget-friendly as the Boardman deal but Specialized has no shortage of Black Friday deals of its own. These are all via the Specialized Concept Store, the Tarmac SL6 Sport in a size 52 available at £1,849, while the Aethos Comp with 105 Di2 is sub-£3,000 (just). That’s only available for a size 54 frame, some of Spesh’s best deals like many places where they’re only available in certain sizes or colours.
The S-Works Tarmac SL8 is available in every size other than 44 for £9,999, down from £12,000, although admittedly that’s the same price as with retailers such as Sigma Sports and Tredz, so maybe some of Specialized’s ‘Black Friday discounts’ should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Sigma Sports ups the Black Friday stakes with daily deals
Sigma Sports has had Black Friday daily deals on the site all week, and today is their final day of a new set of savings available for 24 hours only.

Now that Black Friday has been and gone, we’re still hunting for the best cycling deals across the web as we roll into Cyber Monday.
Yes, it’s a festival of consumerism, but it’s also one of the few times of the year when genuinely good discounts appear. We’ll keep this live blog updated with standout savings throughout the day.
We’d happily live in a Black Friday-free world, but if you’re looking to buy something new, this really is one of the best times to do it. Bikes, kit, tech, accessories… odds are it’s cheaper now than at any point this year, and it’s our job to flag the cycling products worth your attention.
There’s no need to order for the sake of it but that upgrade, bit of winter kit, or Christmas gift idea might well be as cheap as it’s ever been. In which case, who are we to tell you not to.

Would he have performed better on his normal bike?
the National Bus and Rail Union told the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament) the following month, saying the requirements (making the cyclist scum wear helmets and HiViz) would, “make the roads a safer place, as it would make potential hazards easier to spot.” Nothing to do with driver behaviour then? 40% of fatal road incidents (70 deaths p.a.) in Ireland involve excess alcohol. Pass a law mandating compulsory alcohol interlocks for all motor vehicles and see what that does for road safety first.

Very correct price for a basic, no-frills frameset. Older and wiser -after a warranty case on a '100 year' Ti frameset that lasted 5 years before a drive side chain stay weld said sayonara- I'll never again purchase a really high cost Ti frame. If the replacement -3999 Euro at retail but I paid 800, which is what it took for them to +- honour the warranty- fails, I'm done. Firstly because they do fail. Titanium is very finicky where welding conditions are concerned and good luck with that warranty, better read the wording very carefully. Secondly, often the price is justified with 'it's a frame for life'. Errrr....yes, unless you decide you want something different after 5 years, it breaks or technology evolves to a point where your frameset becomes aa anachronism and after 10 years you can start hunting for spares(UDH and disc brakes, anyone?). Third: I'm getting a bit tired reading about these so-called 'magical' properties of Ti. The only magical thing about it is the corrosion resistance. All that absorbing of vibrations etc is mainly function of frame design/geometry. If you want vibration damping: larger tires, lower pressure, done.

Nobody wanted to slay the goose with golden eggs.
Am I missing something. Pogacar would be firm favourite no matter what you did unless you made it a very flat edition which no one would want. Outside of Pogacar its all up for grabs. You can't build a good multi-week race with Pogacar in the form he is in. Take Pogacar out and this would be fine.
