Rad Power Bikes, the beleaguered brand that was once the king of the US e-bike industry, has suffered yet another setback with a serious fire at its retail/warehouse facility in Huntington Beach, California.
The fire comes just months after a major federal warning about the brand’s batteries being a fire hazard.
“We’re working with local authorities to review a thermal incident that occurred at our Huntington Beach store Sunday evening,” a Rad Power Bikes spokesperson told Electrek. “The incident was contained and happened while the store was closed. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.”
Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire, but it’s notable that Rad Power Bikes referred to the incident as “thermal,” despite saying its cause has not been confirmed.
Footage shows over an hour of the fire, with firefighters getting hosed down, which the site claims is standard procedure for potentially toxic fires.
The video, shot by a local YouTuber, shows kids riding what may or may not have been “rescued” e-bikes.

The incident is the latest in a series of knocks for the company. In November 2025, a public safety warning from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission urged users to stop using certain batteries included with e-bikes due to a risk of fire.
The commission highlighted some $734,500 of damage caused by batteries, and that some of these fires occurred when the batteries were not in use or charging.
In response, Rad Power Bikes refused a formal recall, claiming the cost would force the company to “shut its doors immediately.”
More bad news followed in December 2025 when the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with the intention of selling the brand within the following two months.
If the fire is determined to have been caused by a Rad Power Bikes battery, it’s likely to further tarnish the reputation – and value – of a company that pioneered the first wave of e-bikes in the US.
