Morvélo have announced details of CItyCross, a unique urban cyclocross race that is set within a listed and decaying abandoned mill in central Halifax, on 3 March.
And rather than following the regular format for cyclocross races (an hour long) they’ll seeding the competitors through to a final with a series of 30 minute motos. Borrowed from Motocross and BMX, the top 50% of each round will progress through to the semi finals. The process is repeated until the final race.
As the unique setting inside an old mill suggests, this won’t be any normal cyclocross race. There will be rubble heaps to contend with, man made obstacles, multiple lines to offer overtaking opportunities, barriers to leap and plenty more. The track will even be routed through a beer tent, with Dark Star Brew Co. supplying the split ale, and a cowbell alley. Sounds like a hoot to us.
Morvélo promise that spectating will be as much fun as racing. There’ll be loads of catering options, with the obligatory frites, but also Hog Roast and even Sushi as well as lots of great brands showing their latest range of goods.
Races will cater of all categories including Under 12's, Youths, Juniors, Women Only, Novices, Seniors and Vets. Racing is open to cyclocross and mountain bikes, they’re making it as welcoming to all abilities as possible.
Take a look at www.citycross.co.uk for more information and daily updates.

Here's a teaser.... http://vimeo.com/58960220
I'm in !!!
I always wanted to do one in the Battersea power station, would make a cracking venue
It feels strange to us going up North. We've only every done stuff in the South East so this really will be an adventure
If this goes well, we'd love to do one in London and Bristol and make it a series. That's our dream but it's taken more than a year to find a venue for this one. Having said that if anyone comes across a good location and can get permission get in touch!
Why do I live SOOOOOOO far away from these kind of things.
Just looked at trains 10 hours to get there....
Bring to London. We could do it in a dis-used bank dealing room on fixies or singlespeeds.
There could be piles of old computers and unused tables and office chairs to traverse!
Cow Bell & Beater ordered off Amazon.
This looks great. And frites in Halifax. Love it. Is this the beginning of the end for the Yorkshire chip?
We'll be there! Even more fun knowing what's planned.
This sounds like a big pile of fun to me! hoping to get a pass for the day
