Graeme Obree attacked in pub in Scotland

Hour record winner preparing for 100mph land speed record

Graeme Obree, the former hour record holder known as the Flying Scotsman, is recovering after an uprovoked attack in a pub in Ayrshire.

Obree, 46, is currently building his own bike in an attempt to beat the human-powered land speed record in the US next month - a feat that would take his speed over 100mph.

Police were called to the Flask bar after midnight on Wednesday, but the man who hit Obree in the face had already left. Obree had his lip split open in the incident.

A source quoted by the Scottish Sun said: "“It was a totally unprovoked attack. Graham is fine now.”

We showed you a video of Obree's maiden voyage on his bike, which was built in his kitchen. He'll be riding 'Beastie' in a head-down, prone position.

The idea is clearly to get into a lower and therefore more aerodynamic position, but it doesn't exactly look comfortable. In the video, though, Obree says it “feels great!”

All the best from Road.cc, Graeme.
