British Cycling reveals route for this month's inaugural Twinings Pro-Am Tour

Sportive riders tackle route out of Salisbury on Saturday before pros hit road on Sunday of Bank Holiday weekend

British Cycling has announced the route of the Professional Road Race to be held during the inaugural Twinings Pro-Am Tour weekend in Wiltshire over the forthcoming August Bank Holiday. The pro race will take place on Sunday 28 August, 24 hours after sportive enthusiasts will have had a chance to tackle a route starting and finishing in Salisbury.

The pro race, which is included on the Premier Calendar, comprises 101 miles of racing, following four laps of a 17-mile circuit that passes under the Fovant Badges – regimental insignia carved into the chalk downs during World War I – before completing six laps of a 5.5-mile finishing circuit including Wilton, where the race starts and finishes.

Teams competing include Rapha Condor Sharp, Motorpoint, Endura, Raleigh, SigmaSport-Specialized, 100%ME, and the Great Britain under-23 academy squad ahead of their participation in the Tour de L’Avenir.

British Cycling’s Cycle Sport and Membership director Jonny Clay said: “We've worked hard to make this event happen both locally and nationally, bringing on board a new sponsor, working with the local authorities and police to obtain the necessary permissions and cooperation that have enabled the weekend to happen.

He continued: “I’m pleased we’ve formed these new partnerships and shown it's possible to run events of this stature in this part of the country. I hope the Twinings Pro-Am becomes a template for people to deliver more events like this that reach cyclists of all ages and abilities, representing who we are as an organisation and giving people yet more reasons to join British Cycling”

Entries for the Saturday Sportives are still open, with further information and details of how to register on the event website. British Cycling members can get a 20 per cent discount on entry if they log into the British Cycling website and submit their entry via that route.
