British clothing manufacturers Shutt VR are launching a new softshell jacket that will be available from next Monday, and priced at £69 it could turn out to be a bit of a bargain.

We’ll reserve judgment until we’ve actually given it a go, but Shutt promise us that the Active Softshell is wind resistant, showerproof, warm and breathable. You get a high, close-fitting collar, reflective trim front and rear, and both the hem and the cuffs are adjustable, allowing you to control the climate in there.

The cut is a little looser than you’ll find on some cycling jackets – it’s less fitted than Shutt’s own Winter Jacket, for example – and the back isn’t extended down, so you can wear it off the bike without it looking too out of place. We’ll be getting a review online as soon as pos.

Shutt have only been around since last year but the brand is making a considerable impact in the marketplace. The range, which is largely based on merino Sportwool, has increased massively over recent months and Shutt already sponsor a couple of race teams – Orbea-For Goodness Shakes!, which will become Twenty3c-Orbea next year, and also the Squadra Donne/Bikefood/Shutt women’s team.

Look out for several Shutt VR reviews on road.cc shortly. We’re currently testing the Signature Training Top, Race Lite Gilet and a couple of pairs of bib shorts.
