Police have made contact with the London cyclist who was filmed being pushed off his bike and into a bus stop by a car passenger last week. He reportedly suffered only minor injuries and says he has been ‘overwhelmed’ by support expressed via social media.

A video taken from inside a vehicle shows a passenger pushing the cyclist off his bike and into a bus stop on one of the capital’s Cycle Superhighways.

Communicating via Twitter yesterday, the Met Police’s Cycle Safety Team said: “We are aware of the footage of a cyclist being pushed of his bike. This was reported at the time and is being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit.”

The officer manning the account added: “I have made contact with the cyclist involved in this incident. He is overwhelmed with support this incident has attracted on social media.

“He is himself not on Twitter but wanted me to let people know he suffered minor injuries and is recovering well at home.”

The Cycle Safety Team also reported that the victim’s bike was damaged and will require new handlebars and a front wheel.

The location has been identified as Balham Hill, SW12 on Cycle Superhighway 7. Anyone with information can contact the Metropolitan Police Cycle Safety Team via Twitter.
