Cyclists who choose to get some of their miles in at the gym will now be able to automatically upload their workouts to Strava.
The company has announced an integration within the Strava app called Gym and Studio Sync.
This will work with selected gym to record and share workouts, and also promote new classes and gyms nearby.
Launch partners include Flywheel Sports, an indoor cycling studio; Life Time, a chain of 127 fitness centres in the USA with cycling equipment and machines, Expresso, a brand of indoor bikes that are found in 3,000 gyms, and various other apps and locations.
This follows Strava’s partnership in 2016 with Peloton, the consumer indoor bike with a screen providing class workouts.
It is becoming apparent that Strava now aims to become more of a social media feed, with Facebook-style newsfeed and closer links with fitness companies and gyms.

Looking at places where
Looking at places where people have ridden == interesting.
Perusing a list of spin workouts people have done == dull.

Agree that stationary ride info is boring for public consumption and shouldn’t have kudos awarded to it, but it does need to be acquired and analysed for the user to help with monitoring progress and toalling miles ridden.
Collecting all such ride info easily under one umbrella, rather than keeping track of all data from the various indoor ride software will be very welcome.

Agreed – I use Strava more to keep track of rides and fitness. It records my Zwift rides so don’t really see a problem with this.
I do hope we will see some customisation though to allow you to exclude the inevitable ‘noise’ as they expand the features.
When you are on a path to
When you are on a path to exit, investors would prefer you to be less niche and appeal to a wider audience as possible. This is inevitable.
Next step; we will start
Next step; we will start deleting your old data if you don’t move to Premium.

After all £3.99 per month is such a lot to pay.

Can I have £3.99, please? I’ll give you my Paypal details, afterall…

You want all for free? Like with google who makes its cash with your data?
I am premium just because I think they earn it.

Whats foolish about paying a reasonable amount for a sevice you use and value, and one which could possibly cease if people don’t pay for it?

I’m already on Premium. I wonder how long Strava will keep all data. I find it funny the idea that someone could still be chasing my times in 2117.
Agree that stationary ride

Right so in the winter then I did 100km on the trainer over three hours. I was as proud of that ride as I was of an equivalent length ride outdoors. Can I ask why it would’nt deserve a kudos if a follower wanted to give one? I does’nt matter whether this ride is inside or outside it matters about the ride stats themselves say.

“Agree that
I agree with this: I rate one 2.5 hr Trainerroad session as up there with my hardest rides. Too hard, relentless, boring, horrible: joyous when it ended.
I’d click Kudos for one of those way before a sunny Sunday cafe gas with a bit of sitting on a bike thrown in.
Just Kudos what you like, and don’t be surprised that not all of Strava’s users want to use it exactly the same way as you do.

Quite true to overcome the boredom and constant pedalling I’d say that is more than worth a Kudos.

You, Sir, win the internets for today. Spot on. No drafting, no freewheeling, no downhills – just pure effort. I always give my riding friends kudos for indoor sessions. Minute for minute they’re tougher than ‘real’ riding almost all the time.
Agreed, give kudos to whoever
Agreed, give kudos to whoever you want regardless of whether its on a trainer or on the road.
let users hide these
let users hide these activities from their feeds and everyone is happy
it’s insane you can’t do this
I thought this site was abut
I thought this site was about road cycling.
Who gives a damn about pretend cycling?
Strava on the road or it didn’t happen.
I’d just like the option to
I’d just like the option to hide trainer workouts, yes, including Zwift sessions. I’m not sure why that’s controversial. I don’t find it impressive that people can bore themselves to death for a few hours, regardless of their power output during that time. I don’t understand why you’d want to share a trainer workout with other people either to be honest.

just mark them as private

This is the only vaguely controversial bit for me, as I’m sure you know that people use it for all manner of stuff that you don’t find 100% boatfloaty. For TTists, triathletes and many other racers, it’s the dull, repetitive stuff that forms the backbone of your training.
Can’t argue with your suggestion for greater customisation, but I can’t help thinking that you could just follow people who do the stuff that you want to see on your feed.
I actually like seeing zwift
I actually like seeing zwift rides as well as real rides.
Makes sense, they need to go
Makes sense, they need to go with where the market is. People want to track their activities and have it all in one place. It’s why they’ve added more sports, not just cycling now.
Look at things like their fitness/fatigue graphs, it would be pointless if it couldn’t take in to account all your activity data. And with things like peloton, and the new Wattbike / prototype Tacx bike, this is only going to become more popular.
Just wish they’d sort out a virtual run category for runs from Zwift, so the times aren’t all out of sync.
