A video has been posted to Facebook of an argument between a cyclist and a driver in the municipality of Santa Cruz in Tenerife. The driver attempts to drive into the cyclist, who according to the description then reveals himself to be a police officer by showing his badge.
Much of the ensuing debate on the social media site concerns whether or not the officer should have been riding in the cycle lane.
Some suggest that he was impeding traffic, while others say that the bike lane isn’t mandatory and he was well within his rights to use the road.
More than one person points out that even if the cyclist should have been in the bike lane, it wouldn’t really excuse the driver’s deliberate attempt to drive into him.

One of those truely stunning
One of those truely stunning moments. I think when the motorist attends the police station they may wish to be very careful when around any stairs.
I must go, baking takes priority, and I need a 15cm pan.
Two guys who I ride with are
Two guys who I ride with are old bill, they don’t carry their warrant cards as apparently it can cause more problems for them. But I feking well would…

“Debate on Facebook”, I am sorry, what is there to debate when someone uses their car as a weapon ?
I love how other drivers just
I love how other drivers just squeeze past like this is totally normal and not worthy of hanging around for.
Seems to be some sort of law
Seems to be some sort of law that you have to ride an S-Works in Santa Cruz. Maybe that’s what this argument was about.
Shoulda gone to Gran Canaria
Shoulda gone to Gran Canaria 🙂
Everyone was lovely and seemed really happy whilst we rode around the island on our recent trip there.
The majority give you a little toot of encouragement as they pass you on the climbs and encourage you on…………..there was something a little macabre though………….the ambulance drivers were especially enthusiastic……..lots of waving and smiling.
Maybe they were thinking to themselves “see you later” 🙂
If we’d got any of the corners wrong on the descents I don’t think we’d have been seeing anyone again TBH 🙂
Awesome place to cycle though.
The vid should no clue as to
The vid showed no clue as to why they are both drifting along in the middle of the road. So Facebook warriors can argue all they want. What is clear is someone using a car as a weapon. Go straight to Jail, do not pass Go.
I had a G4S drivewr do this
I had a G4S drivewr do this to me in an ambulance and when he forced me off the road he then took out his special constable warrant card issued by the Met police and began to verbally abuse and physically intimidate me. The complaint is still being handled (ignored) 6 months after the fact and the police won’t even cover the damage to my Lightweight wheels. The driver lied to G4S when i claimed and he lied to save his job.
Sadly no-one gives a shit because i’m a middle aged woman that rides a bike that failed to end up dead in the gutter
Just replace the word Cyclist
Just replace the word Cyclist with offficer and the story takes on a whole different perspective because cyclists are seen as 2nd class.
‘fck him he’s a cyclist’ –
‘fck him he’s a cyclist’ – everyone on facebook probably
