Video: Taxi driver appears to deliberately swerve into delivery cyclist

Tattoo blogger catches by chance the moment a taxi driver careers into the man, knocking him face first onto the pavement

A blogger has caught on camera the moment a Toronto taxi driver appears to deliberately swerve into a delivery cyclist, leaving him sprawled face down on the pavement.

In footage taken from inside the taxi in front, tattoo blogger Roman Atwood films the rider, wearing a large delivery backpack, tapping the taxi’s near side, before the vehicle swerves dramatically into him.

Atwood gets out of the vehicle to check the man is OK. The rider, up on his feet, is threatening to call the police, accusing the driver of assault. Other drivers and a cyclist can be seen taking sides.

Deliveroo drivers won't be forced to sign new contract

The rider and driver are on a road with “sharrows”, or shared lane arrows, a road marking used in North America, Australia and Spain. They are supposed to encourage drivers and cyclists to “share the road” but, perhaps unsurprisingly, were found in one study to have little effect on the safety of those on bikes.

Everything you need to see happens in the first 10 seconds of the video.

Cyclist reaches out and touches/taps on window of taxi, taxi imediately turns into cyclist and parks next to the curb leaving cyclist on floor. Clear, intentional attack with a a vehicle.

I feel like I have brain cancer having to sit through some useless bloggers pointless life diary just to see the incident.

Adding the specific minute mark into the article so people can cast forward would help save brain cells.

Hmmm, you could have 'taken one for the team' and included that information in your comment! Seeing as you've already done the tedious bit!

I have used taxis in the past, but now refuse to as I found their driving scary. We even reported one to the police as he was regularly doing 60+ in a 30 limit. Even with video evidence from inside the cab of the speedo the did nothing.

Many drive aggressively and speed just so they can get back to the taxi rank, hoping to be slightly further up the queue for the next roller coaster ride!

With decent buses, trams and trains you wouldn't need these arrogant motorists on the road!

I once made the significant mistake of telling a Cypriot taxi driver that we were running late for our flight.  The next fifteen minutes were like something from a Jason Statham film as he broke every traffic law ever enacted anywhere.  And it was funny how his passable English language skills at the start of the drive disappeared as soon as we were moving.  For a while I actively considered the theory that we were being kidnapped.

Why would you even 'threaten' to call the police after that? With that video evidence the driver needs to go down.

Self-driving-taxis now please!
