road.cc’s founder and first editor, nowadays to be found riding a spreadsheet. Tony’s journey in cycling media started in 1997 as production editor and then deputy editor of Total Bike, acting editor of Total Mountain Bike and then seven years as editor of Cycling Plus. He launched his first cycling website – the Cycling Plus Forum at the turn of the century. In 2006 he left C+ to head up the launch team for Bike Radar which he edited until 2008, when he co-launched the multi-award winning road.cc – finally handing on the reins in 2021 to Jack Sexty. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ – which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he’d like to own a carbon bike one day.

Apparently this pavement in Wales has proved too narrow for at least 3 drivers! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9w4vdxrz9do .. Although apparently this is an "accidentally put a walking route in the sat-nav" issue.

@chrisonabike It'll get a lot more unfit if we don't change our ways. This vote was nothing more than councillors worrying about losing votes. We need to change our ways urgently, for the sake of our health and our survival as well as for economic reasons. In short, the UK needs some tough love. Burnham needs to have the moral courage to force local authorities to make these changes in the same way as the Dutch did in 1973. The then Dutch PM's words are still relevant today:- "The world from before the oil crisis will not return. We will have to adjust to a permanent shift in our way of life and our economic management." We need to change, like it or not.

@60somethingcyclist yes, and a fair amount of that is 3 miles or less, and there are even lots of "one mile or under". But... with any aging and increasingly unfit (in many ways) population 3 miles there and then back seems a big deal. Particularly since the mental model is still "drive or walk" for most. Of course use of "cycles" helps ameliorate several of these issues. But it's a change not only in thought but in "how society works" (where you're expected to get to, carrying what) AND usually the built environment (with high- value items like those shops, schools and hospitals we've increasingly centralised.

@Destroyer666 Silca occupy the super-premium market. Muc-Off, while upmarket, is definitely lower tier. Yes, chemical engineering and R&D are expensive. Still, Muc-Off products simply are not that good compared to many other brands, hence my BS comment earlier.
