Tinkoff-Saxo has posted pictures on social media showing Peter Sagan in his rainbow jersey and with a custom paintjob on his Specialized S-Works bike to celebrate his world championship win last weekend.
The Slovakian rider’s new kit was unveiled this morning when he took part in a photoshoot at the office in Milan of the Gazzetta dello Sport.
He will race in it for the first time on Thursday as the inaugural four-day Abu Dhabi Tour – organised, like the Giro d’Italia, by RCS Sport – gets underway.
According to UCI rules, "The wearer of the world champion's jersey shall be entitled to match the colour of his shorts to that of the jersey."
Each autumn, the issue of whether the new world champion will choose to wear white or team colour shorts becomes the subject of speculation.
Many purists insist that only black will do – a throwback perhaps to the days when most teams did wear black shorts, so pictures of world champions from bygone years will show that.
Mark Cavendish at Sky and Etixx-Quick Step's Michal Kwiatkowski both benefited from kits that had black shorts. 2009 world champion Cadel Evans meanwhile had shorts that incorporated both white panels at the side and black at the front and rear.
As you can see from the pictures, Sagan has opted for white shorts in the kit, made by Sportful.

I’m all for black shorts with
I’m all for black shorts with the World Champs top. But unfortunately Sagan didn’t have much choice. Due to a stupid UCI rule, shorts with champs jerseys can only be team issue or white. As the Saxo shorts are not black he has a choice of Saxo fluro or white.
It looks smart to me. I tend
It looks smart to me. I tend to ride in predominately white kit on my black bike. Looks ace.
White shorts are perfectly
White shorts are perfectly cromulent, ooh do I feel rain?
He had better paint jobs on
He had better paint jobs on his Cannondales, that’s a lot understated not like him at all.
What would Mario Cipollini
What would Mario Cipollini do? Every item of clothing and every part of the bike should be white, and adorned with rainbow stripes.
I long for the days when world champions lacked any kind of restraint when it came to kit.

Well done Sagan for wining
Well done Sagan for wining the world champs (a very deserving winner and great cyclist), but………MY EYES.
If he didn’t have the choice, as alluded to above, then I feel sorry for him. Imagine being told by your employer that on wining the world champs that you had to wear white shorts for the next year. I’m sure he’s more happy with the jersey/stripes!
White shorts! No Peter No.

Faced with the option of white shorts or the standard team shorts with that jersey, I’d have gone for white too. Rules do seem a bit ridiculous though – why can’t you have the option of white or black? He is world champion, after all!
Agree the bike’s a bit underwhelming. As said above, I expected a rainbow camo job, which would have looked great. Or perhaps even rainbow stripes running the full length and breadth of all the tubes, so there’s no black on the frame at all – that would certainly have stood out!
Read all about it…Chubby
Read all about it…Chubby MAMILS get in a flap over white shorts.
I really don’t think the current World Champion, multi-millionaire and hard man of the road gives a flying f*ck what you lot think.
Away and ride your bikes.

Ah, but we really care so much about your opinion. And the only part of MAMIL that applies to me is MIL.
FWIW when faced with team issue or white, I’d go white too. But surely the WC should get the choice of black or white.
This whole white ensemble
This whole white ensemble looks miles better than that rainbow vomit fest that was his Slovak national champs/Tinkoff yellow amalgamation!

I thought that was one of the best looking kits out there; especially the helmet. Oh well, horses for courses 😉

Less of the ‘chubby’. White
Less of the ‘chubby’. White kit ( especially with sleeveless jerseys) is only fit for sad Italian poseurs. And the odd Brit with no taste.

Here was me thinking the #FashionTravesty was having black shoes with all-white kit. Go on, Sagan lad, get down to Sports Direct, they’ve got those crummy muddyfox ones for thirty notes ;’) Live a little :))
