Ever wanted to own an actual race bike? Canyon has been selling off old team bikes for a while now, giving you the rare opportunity to get your hands on an actual race bike, not just a replica that shares the same paint job - these bikes wear the scars from racing in the toughest cycle races. And at the moment it is selling off Alex Dowsett’s Aeroad and Nairo Quintana’s Ultimate, both used in the 2014 season.

Alex Dowsett’s bike is the first generation Aeroad, not the latest incarnation that Dowsett has been racing this season, after it was introduced last summer. It’s a size medium and is painted in Movistar colours, obviously, and built up with a Campagnolo Super Record EPS 11-speed groupset with matching Bora Ultra Two tubular wheels and Continental Competition Pro Ltd Competition - the tyres you can’t actually buy, they are team issue only. Canyon is asking £4,499 for Alex Dowsett’s Aeroad.

If that wasn’t interesting enough, Canyon has also put up Nairo Quintana's 2014 Ultimate CF SLX EPS race bike. This is basically the same bike as the pink one he used to ride to Giro d’Italia victory last year, and is a size XS (50cm) painted in Movistar team colours.

Like Dowsett’s Aeroad, it’s equipped with a full Campagnolo Super Record EPS groupset with Campagnolo Eurus Clincher wheels and Continental Grand Prix tyres. The chainset is a 53/39t item and the handlebars and stem are Canyon’s own products, and the Fizik saddle is colour matched to the frame. If you’ve got a spare £5,599 this bike can be yours to own.

Clearly these bikes are going to have a few scrapes and dings, but judging by the photos that Canyon has shared on its website, they both look in pretty good condition. Race bikes are reasonably well looked after, they’re certainly washed and serviced on a very regular basis, but they do get knocked around a lot, whether in races or the huge amount of travelling the racers do. It’s not clear how much racing these bikes have seen, each rider has several bikes at their disposal throughout the season, a main bike and a couple of spares, so there’s no indication of mileage or wear on the mechanical components.

There are quite a few other team bikes on the Canyon website, we’ve just picked out the two most interesting
