Last chance for Forest of Dean Classic sportive pre-entry

Thursday is the last chance to pre-register for the May 3, 4 sportive which includes new 100km Monmouthshire Challenge

Discounted pre-entry tickets for the Forest of Dean Classic sportive are on sale until Thursday April 30 ahead of the two-day cycling event this bank holiday weekend; May 3, 4.

You can apply for the pre-entry tickets, which come in at a £5 discount via event organisers Wheels in Wheels website, here.

This year’s event, the 11th consecutive edition of the popular sportive, will see the inclusion of a new ride, the 100km Monmouthshire Challenge.

Set to take place on Sunday May 3 ahead of the Forest of Dean Spring Classic on the Monday, the Monmouthshire Challenge will cover parts of the 2014 British Road Race Championship as well as swathes of beautiful Gloucestershire forest.

The following day sees two rides on offer for the traditional Forest of Dean Classic ride, now referred to as the Forest of Dean Spring Classic. A shorter 100km route covers large parts of the traditional 145km route, but with a much more forgiving eight climbs.

The twenty climbs of The Classic route cover 8000 vertical feet, including the famous Symonds Yat with its 25% gradient only 10 miles from the finish.

The start and finish for all of the rides can be found at Vauxhall Fields, which is only a few short minute’s walk from the center of Monmouth.

You’ll be supplied with sportive amenities such as mechanical back up from Shimano, fully stocked feed stops, personal timing, fully signposted routes, a broom wagon, and free tea, coffee, and porridge upon your return.

An early bird ticket to ride Sunday’s Monmouthshire Challenge will cost £15, while entrance to the Forest of Dean Spring Classic will set you back £35. If you’d like to enter both, you can, for the reduced price of £45.

Both days have a participant capacity of 500 riders, so if you want to head over, you best be quick. It’s worth bearing in mind that you can still buy tickets for the event after Thursday, but the price for all tickets will be raised by £5.

Well, with Wiggle pitching their Wye Valley Warrior sportive on the Sunday of the same weekend and in the same area, there should be plenty of opportunity for confusion on the routes...
