Prospective London mayoral candidate doing Twitter Q&A on cycling later today

Christian Wolmar calling for zero tolerance to road deaths

Christian Wolmar, prospective London mayoral candidate and perhaps the UK's foremost transport commentator, is holding a Twitter Q&A on cycling from 1pm today. Questions can be put to him using the hashtag #AskWolmar.

Wolmar is one of several prospective Labour candidates for the 2016 London mayoral election, although with Diane Abbott, Tessa Jowell and David Lammy having also declared themselves for nomination, it is by no means certain that he will end up running.

Wolmar says that he cycles to all the meetings and speaking engagements for the campaign “with the occasional help of the odd bus or train” and in January launched his Vision Zero policy paper in which he calls for “a radical new approach” to the issue of road safety in London.

The three key features of his proposals are: a 20mph zone across the capital; a freight strategy to reduce the number of lorries on London’s streets; and an accident investigation body for road deaths.

Further details can be found on his campaign website, Wolmar for London, and to follow today’s Q&A on Twitter, his account is @WolmarforLondon

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
