The ‘We Fit’ slogan of Britain’s biggest bike retailer, Halfords, came in for a bit of stick on social media yesterday – after one of its lorries with the strapline emblazoned on the back of its trailer got stuck under a railway bridge in south east London.
The incident, at Eden Park, caused trains to be suspended on the line between Beckenham and Hayes yesterday.
Halfords thanked the London Fire Brigade on Twitter for helping free the lorry:
Thank you @LondonFire for helping our 'we fit' lorry which didn't quite fit under the #Beckenham bridge… pic.twitter.com/5uQaQsB7XY

The Worcestershire-based retailer also retweeted a post from London Fire Brigade which carried the hashtag, #WeDontFit
The @Halfords_uk lorry is now freed from under the bridge. Thanks to all involved & luckily no injuries #wedontfit pic.twitter.com/DzPBIsA9F7

It added: “By way of an apology we'll fit bulbs or blades for free at Catford store from tomorrow up to this Friday – just pop in. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. We Didn’t Fit but thankfully nobody was hurt.”

Another slow day for cycling
Another slow day for cycling news?
You can see the circular
You can see the circular traffic order sign (gives the height of the bridge, and is not a triangular warning) so I hope the driver is going to get the *I think* three points and a fine.
