Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================

In the form of a haiku
I await the stuff
Bring on the padded gonks.
The crisp air and those first few lung-busting cold breaths as I hit the Staffordshire countryside and get up to speed.
Autumn, love it.
Coming home soaked through and still feeling great
Simple...riding my bike. Not matter what time of year, just ride.
The best thing about autumn biking is the slowly widening gap between being cold at the beginning and the warmth of hard work spreading throughout your body.
The novelty of cold mornings and layering up!
Merino Nights ...boogie on down the road
Mmmm toastie
Autumn is a chance to wear my 3/4 length leggings & long sleeve Jersey for three weeks before winter kicks in and the long tights and merino Jersey comes out!
Crisp mornings. Not having a sunburnt neck. The chance to get a little bit dirty.
Being able to exert myself a bit more without being soaked in sweat.
Crisp evening air, stars, moonlight, misty sunrises and sunsets. That and getting piss wet through.
Overtaking Rapha victims in £200 rain jackets
Looking good!:)
Crisp, clear mornings
Cool kit!
I've just started cycling again after a 20 year break, some might say not the best time of year. However as I cycle to work in the whipping wind and spattering rain I smile at the freedom of being able cycle along the river Derwent with sheep and cows as company.
At the end of the day I can get back into cycling gear and get on my bike and smile again as I make my way through the falling leaves and follow setting sun, these are my favourite things.
I have the joy of biking through the forest in the early morning light on the way to work and returning in the dusk. Good clothing is an essential ingredient to make this as enjoyable as possible

Not punctures. They're not my favourite thing. Or getting wet. Not that either. Or the cold. Or wind. Don't like those things. I do quite like leaves. And cross. I LOVE cross...
The cooler temperatures so you don't get so sweaty
Cold mornings, brilliant leaf colours in bright sun light, warm cafes for cake and coffee!!

who said anything about autumn. with the right gear it feels like summer all year round
Having the bike path to myself again...
Let's not beat around the bush. I hate Autumn. Don't give me all that fluff about the wonderful colours, crisp air etc., it doesn't wash. Autumn is cold, dark, wet and windy. The only good thing about riding in Autumn is that it makes you appreciate spring and summer more. Roll on April and the spring classics.
Setting off in the dark on my 26 mile commute along the Northumberland lanes and riding through the dawn and the sunrise, then flying home with a westerly breeze on my back - Who cares if you have a crap day at work when it starts and ends so well.
Riding through wooded country roads while rays of golden and auburn sunshine bounce of the side of your eyeballs at acute angles.
When it's over!!!!
