Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

The empty roads. Riding in the dusk.
That feeling when:
- you are layered up for end-of-the-world weather in the morning and the sun shines on the way home...
- you set the fastest time in the morning route, then the slowest back in to the wind home
- leaves dont block the line...
- you spend an hour cleaning your bike and it's plastered in mud & dirt again within 5 minutes
- you grin as people ask you "wouldn't it have been easier to drive in to work today?"
- you try to "hide" your fingers from the cold wind behind your handlebars
- you have one day in the rain and think "I really must get the mudguards on, tonight...." and repeat this every day for a week.

using my nice new vulpine gear!
I enjoy the Autumn for riding from darkness into dawn in the morning, and riding back into darkness in the evening.
It's the season that never lets you down, is supposed to be a bit blustery, bit wet, beautiful lighting and leaves fall off trees...as long as you're prepped, makes for epic shredding!!
What's not to like....cold crisp air and autumnal sunlight!!! Riding out on the Forth and Clyde canal early in the morning with the mist and the sound of silence...

After setting off feeling pretty cold it's that moment 5 minutes into my commute when I hit my first hill and warm up straight away...toasty.
me pleeeeeaaassse
freedom. it's not about training, it's not about racing, it's about remembering why you ride, that giddy feeling of being a kid again, and why it makes you smile.
Leaves on the road, Brisk autumn air, cycling in autumn is awesome - hell yeah!
Wet leaves, low sunlight bouncing off of the roads, condensation in drivers windows. I love it all.
It has to be the cut and thrust of cross racing followed by recovering in front of an open fire!
Pick me!
It's getting nippy...
Knowing that the riding I do now will pay back in the Spring, when others are just getting their bikes out of hibernation.
It's got to be the crisp mornings, a flask of coffee in the bottle cage and a detour via somewhere pretty to drink it.
Enjoying the cold, crisp air? Come on! Autumn is just another excuse for buying more kit.
Flying down a tree covered lane, the leaves being whipped up by your mates bike ahead making you feel like Batman but with out the jet thrusters or the lycra...no wait just like Batman!!
I like the fact that I have an excuse to ride slower due to low sun, wet leaves, etc... and can take in more of the beautiful scenery of Perthshire.
It has to be knowing that it's only going to get colder, darker, and harder. Making that conscious choice not to put the bike into storage, to enjoy the crisp morning, the cool breeze, and beautiful scenery. Winter is coming (excuse the reference).
The smell of wet grass in the roadside.
First ride: Too warm
Second ride: Too cold
Third ride: Rain
One day I'll get the kit right! When I don't, at least I'm riding!
Racing the sun home after work
i love the colours the vibrant oranges and yellows the cold the fact you never know if you will be out alone or on a road filled with people due to the weather.the crunchy lanes filled with leaves and the chance to go out in all weathers in nice clothing that does what it says on the packing
The feeling after the shower after the ride
You get a chance to use the kit thats too warm for summer and too cool for winter !
For a week or two anyway.
Cold crisp days in the lanes…JB
The slight chill in the air, the low sun. What's not to like?
