Trek Project One competition: the shortlist

We've trawled through nearly 6,000 bikes to find the ones we like the most. And here they are...

Well we've stroked our chins and looked at nearly 6,000 different bike designs, and in the end it's come down to this. 25 designs that made it through the initial cull, then the subsequent weighing-this-one-against-that-one discussions to finally land on the shortlist as the best* of the bunch.

Some people have clearly missed their vocation, getting quite a few designs into the long list, but we've picked 25 different designers for the final cut. And one of these bikes dun gone get made. We'll be opening voting next week so you can pick your favourites.

In the mean time, have a scroll through them and tell us which one you like best. If you want to take the time to tell us that we're a bunch of colour-blind morons that wouldn't know a beautiful bike from a hole in the ground, that's fine too. In fact, we demand it.

*yes, we know yours was better.

Not sure some of those wheels keep you under the £3,500 limit or whatever it was either.....has this been checked by the invigilators. I spent a lot of time spec-ing mine despite people just walloping on Dure-Ace Di2 and deep rimmed mavic wheels.....

There were a few areas where you could shave off a few quid - like the bars and saddle - to spend more elsewhere. I submitted a spec that even included a garmin. Ho hum. Wish I'd thought of submitting a design in, you know, JUST ONE COLOUR. Grumble.

The bike designed by Jamie Watkins, that wouldn't be the same Jamie Watkins who works for Pro Cycling Magazine would it? Just asking.

You're confusing him with the other Jamie Watkins called Jamie Wilkins.

Surprised that black bikes have made the shortlist. There were loads of those amongst the entries with usually just different variations in the colouring of the Trek logo. Must have been a mare to judge among while considering other entries from people who actually put some thought into their designs. Ooh, black bike with yellow logo, ooh black bike with silver logo, ooh another black bike with grey logo, etc.

The 15 year old work experience boys have been kept busy for the last few weeks... "Flames. I like flames".

BITTER.

You certainly like black + a colour don't you? Said with no trace of bitterness AT ALL.

Credit to you though for trawling through all those entries. I bet there were a few random rules applied to narrow down the shortlist.

That's a lot of bikes with flames on them. Too cool.

So honoured to see my Giro d'Italia inspired design in the shortlist (number 21, with the pink handlebar tape and Italian colours).

mine is 19, I designed one which was a bit less pink but clearly didn't get through! I'd have to buy a matching Day glo pink Lampre kit if it got made just for a laugh!

Cue the inevitable; "They can't be the 'best' as mine's not in the list" complaints from all those who didn't get it.
