Nicole Cooke receives MBE

Welsh cyclist pays tribute to family

Cyclist Nicole Cooke collected an MBE for services to sport today and received the award from Prince Charles. The ten-time national road race champion who was born in Swansea, south Wales and now lives in Switzerland is one of British cycling’s most decorated athletes.

The 26-year-old said that receiving the honour was a new experience after winning medals: "It’s totally different, the others were hard fought it took a lot of effort to win those.

“Where this is more of a gift, so very nice and very, very special for myself and family who have really helped me achieve my success."

She won a gold medal in the Olympic road race in Beijing last year, as well as ending 2008 winning the world title. And, of course, she also picked up the road.cc rider of the year award in the same year too.
