I don't think he has actually taken it outside yet and the bike has only been viewed under artificial light. It'll be interesting to know if the paint finish appears different on his under different light.
Do you not notice the marks (I'll call them that just because it isn't an even finish) when you are riding and when you look down to take a drink from your water bottle?
The second picture I attached just looks so prominent and to me like some thing has rubbed down the downtube (even if it hasn't).
I know I wouldn't accept a new car with such marks so not sure I would be happy with it on a bike....even if they say it is normal.
It's the same on my cf 8.0 so don't think it's a defect and never had anyone else suggest it's marked and outside in daylight I do notice different areas to the ones I see under artificial light
