Its exactly what you have said, would be optional extra's, that wouldn't alter how the game currently runs.
Currently none of us know exactly how it would look/work, it was an idea thrown out by Dave as like i said we run our own comps via the forum and integrating it into the game would integrate more players that are interested in extra comps, but wouldn't force others, that like it how it is now, to play.
(also it takes more time and effort than you would imagine to self score a comp just via a spreadsheet, especially the more players you have. A lot of that work goes in before the comp as we do it as purist, but when startlists change so often, so do the teams of those competing. But its all good fun)
So I would be for it as it would help me, and allow more players, enhance the fun
To be honest, I still think it sounds a little complicated. What I love about the gane right now is that it's easy to use and with these changes I can see myself getting more than a little frustrated. Of course, these would be optional extras so of course I could opt not to take part. It would just be a shame to miss out on some of the game. Then again when it all comes down to it, it might be the easiest thing in the world to navigate. It remains to be seen and I'm not yet convinced is all
The bit about being able to choose the stages and points sounds a little complicated for me. I like the idea about having different teams for overlapping races, though, but I'm not sure how it would work for the overall league, especially if some people didn't want to do overlapping races. I also definitely approve of having one team for transfers and then a purist team too.
The races wouldn't count in the normal competition, they would just be fun.
At the moment for quite a few races me and whoever else wishes to join run competitions for fun for the races that are not included in Dave's game. So basically what Dave is saying is for example i could continue to do that, but do it on the game alongside the main competition, to make it easier for those taking part and for people like myself who currently have to do all the data for the teams and scoring by hand
Like the idea of this
Yes, great idea.
Wow! Cool!
What a topping idea. You must have so much spare time
Sounds good to me
Sounds excellent and having community involvement is a great way of reducing your workload too
Out of interest, given that there'll be different scoring options available does that mean in theory you might get two versions of the same race running set up by two people with different scoring criteria? And if so will we be able to play both?
EDIT: does that also mean someone might be able to set up a different version of the TdF with different scoring (like having full KM/PC points awarded?)
don't know. we only though of it this morning
probably not. you don't want to end up with nine different TDF games with slightly different scoring criteria
what it does mean is that we could set up purist competitions (no transfers per stage) for the competitions, so you could have a transfers team and a purist team for the same login
Excellent, means I can delete my other account
I agree with all your points, having lots of the same competition would get very confusing, especially with different teams for all of them, restricting the big ones like the Giro/TdF/Classics to just the main comp would also mean they stay as the major part of the game with everyone competing on the same terms.
As part of the 'variable rules' thing would you intend on keeping the player value cap as a fixed thing or let people remove it? I was thinking of setting up a purist-ish squad based game type thing next year, pick 25 riders for X credits, use any 9 of them (but only them, noone outside your squad, no transfers) for any race etc, having a bit of flexibilty on value cap might mean I could set it up within the game engine rather than outside of it
Also, I'd suggest having a 'competition identifier' type variable on the competitions set up by community people, that means they can link them together into larger collections of races (like adding in unnofficial classics to the official classics to make a bigger classics comp) or even be able to group together all the comps they run on a certain points basis.
Sounds perfect, Give a few of us a shiny badge and we'll sort out any extra's
