I’ve just bought a Genesis CDA 10 as a winter/commuter. I bought some sks longboard guards to fit but due to the bosses for the front stays being roughly 1/3 of the way up the front fork, they don’t fit. Can anybody recommend a front mudguard that would for a system like this? Thanks.

Can you post a couple of pics of the fork the guard and the stays in your attempt so far?

I have fitted these to mid fork bosses without any problems, so I want to see if there’s anything unusual going on.

So, the bottom stay is about

So, the bottom stay is about 30mm too short to even reach the holder, without even thinking about bending it. Hit a bit of a brick wall now. I need to extend them somehow, or buy longer stays, which don’t appear to be readily available.

Those stays have been bent
Those stays have been bent “professionally” to look like they were designed to be that shape. Very pretty, but a bit OTT in my humble opinion.

If you’re less fussy about bend curvatures you can easily do it by hand for an end result that isn’t too bad.

Cutting stays can be done in various ways… Hacksaw, Dremel or in my case, a pair of £4.99 bolt cutters from Lidl.

The stays are hard to cut.  I clamped them in mole grips just above where I wanted the cut, then took a junior hacksaw to them.   Bending them required a vice and mole grips.

SKS fitting instructions are
SKS fitting instructions are truly awful and cover only parts of the process. They also don’t allow for any variance from their model frame.

The good news is that the guards you have will fit just fine. Here’s my first guess at the solution in your case:

Have you removed the mudguard stay end caps from the rest of the part that slides onto the sliding bridge?

You need to slide the mudguard stays through the plastic guides that hold the bolts and you then cut to size and put the caps on right at the end.

You can also bend the stays to improve their angle of attack if required.

It’s easy once you’ve accepted that a bit of re-engineering outside the instructions is required as most mudguards require a degree of fettling.
