Podium Cafe VDS

Hello,

At the end of last year I said I'd be setting up an off-site league in one of the other bigger fantasy games.  The game is the Podium Cafe VDS and it is a year long squad based game.  You get a budget, pick a squad based on a set of rules then that's it.  No transfers, no picking teams, nothing.  You just have to trust your guys to go out and get you some points.

The game runs across both women's and men's racing the calendar is very extensive covering everything from Grand Tours to national championships.

An intro to the game can be found here - http://www.podiumcafe.com/2014/2/3/5370538/fsa-directeur-sportif-2014-starts-now

And the game itself is here - http://pdcvds.com/

League's don't seem to work too well so if anyone else is interested in competing we'll need to add each other to our own personal leagues, that means if you 're in you need to post your DS name and team name in this thread.  I'll keep track of the results through the year.

My details are:- DS name - drheaton Men's team - Mostly Hopeless Women's team - Right-handed OuOuOranges

Competitors: (DS - Men's Team - Women's Team)
TERatcliffe26 - TERatcliffe26
shutuplegs - Avengers:Age of Nick! - Ladies 1st
The Domestique - The Domestique
raysilvester1 - Big Rays Riders
Ghedebrav - Voodoo All Stars
Twybaydos - Topsport Torquay - Topsport Torquay Femennile
chiv30 - Carbon crutches and epo
Pure fantasy - Pure fantasy - Pure fantasy women

If you're new please join in and if you have questions pop them below and the forum regulars will answer as best we can.

Would be really great if Uran finally delivered for all those points.

Pozzovivo, Kelderman, Zoidl, Arredondo and Geniez for me. Not many riders but all of those in it could be interesting for me

Complete bust for me at the giro today. (more geared to overall with J-Rod and Pozz, and outside potential from Basso, Monfort, Geniez, Zoidl, Arredondo. Only Colbrelli that could do something on flatter stages)

Just need Demare to hold on to the overall at 4JDD though

As for my women, Vos looks like she is gonna pull me back into contention and make her selection worth it

I haven't updated this for a while as things weren't really moving enough week on week to justify it.

After Giro I'll aim to tot up scores. At the moment Dux89 (DaneC) is now beating me by 200 points but if my Pozzo and Kelderman finish above his Uran and Arredondo gets the mountains jersey I may claw this back. Uran finishing second would only give Dane 450 points but 6+7+mts yields 585.

Aru was only 6 points by the way....

Results after the Giro. I clawed back a lot of points from Dux 89 in the final standings where Pozzo, Kelderman, Geniez and Arredondo scored more than his Uran, but Dux is still ahead of me by 32 points (or a Bryan Coquard stage win in the French cup).

Men - Big changes, bad times for Ghedebrav, great results for Ray and Nick, who moved off the bottom

1.(2) Dane C - Velohuman Pro Cycling 7448
2.(1) Twybaydos Topsport Torquay 7416
3.(6) raysilvester1 Big Rays Riders 6232
4.(4) Pure fantasy Pure fantasy 5894
5.(8) TERatcliffe26 TERatcliffe26 5469
6.(10) shutuplegs Avengers:Age of Nick! 5288
7. (7) The Domestique The Domestique 5024
8.(5) drheaton Mostly Hopeless 4743
9.(3) Ghedebrav Voodoo All Stars 4649
10.(9) chiv30 carbon crutches and epo 3902

Women
1. Twybaydos Topsport Torquay Femennile 7153
2. shutuplegs Ladies 1st 5840
3.(5) drheaton Right-handed OuOuOranges 5668
4.(6) TERatcliffe26 TERatcliffe26 5323
5.(3) Ghedebrav Voodoo All Stars 5192
6.(4). Pure fantasy Pure fantasy women 4434
7. The Domestique The Domestique 3188

Combined (a count-back of overall place in each game rather than total score):
1. Twybaydos 46
2.(3) shutuplegs 235
3.(6) TERatcliffe26 263
4.(5). drheaton 290
5.(3) PureFantasy 315
6.(2). Ghedebrav 327
7. The Domestique 425

It's probably not worth updating the results until after TDF.

Not playing premium this year but this game gives me plenty of interest especially after an unexpectedly good MSR. Not a bad purist team really.

Part of me wishes I'd picked Contador now but I went for a young clean (I hope) team and as it wasn't oriented to the classics I'm pleased with my start but can't see TvG matching Contador somehow (and they both cost 16).

But if Swift and Lobato do well that would help a lot, especially as very few have Lobato I reckon.

I've got Lobato....top scorer on my team so far....and being widely touted as the premier Spanish sprinter now(surpassing Rojas I guess?)

Ah yes. I've looked at your team now. Lobato top for me as well with Kwia and then Swift. You should catch me up soon if Boonen goes as well as expected. I think I've got more GC guys though!

Good game actually. I saw something about it on the forum last year but was too late to do anything. Only saw a thread about it on the 27th and put in my team the next day. Gives some interest to nearly every race. Hoping for Hofland, D van Poppel, Trentin and Wynants for the Belgian races and got plenty of people for this one although nothing for today.

Let's hope Gerrans gets better soon. Hoping for something in the Ardennes from him.

Big fat zero for me although looking at my team I realise I haven't picked many classics guys, think I may fall behind over the next few weeks then try and catch up in the grand tours.
