Classic Pyrenees Discovery is uniquely tailored for those who want to experience the outstanding cycling that the Pyrenees has to offer, with the key word ‘Discovery’. Perhaps you’ve never ridden in the Pyrenees before or would simply like a good balance between riding and relaxation, either way you will discover the mountains, conquer the cols and indulge in the magnificent environment that you will find yourself in.
You will be treated to riding in some of the most amazing scenery that the world has to offer.
Our base in the Pyrenees is situated in Sainte-Marie de Campan, right in the heart of the mountains. It is located directly at the bottom of the Col d’Aspin and the Col du Tourmalet; placing you in an exceptional location for fantastic road riding.
How much riding will I be doing? Classic Pyrenees Discovery includes 6 days of structured riding of the best routes and roads that the Pyrenees has to offer, there will be a rest day planned for mid-week (optional – according to group’s desires). You will be treated to staggering climbs, jaw-dropping vistas and thrilling descents. With regards to distances covered, most rides will be between 80km-100km with a shorter ride on day 1 (to get the legs spinning) and a bigger (longer) ride during the week, these distances can vary from group to group as the riding is will be customised accordingly.
Some of the cols that are likely to be experienced are: Col du Tourmalet, Col d’Aspin, Gavarnie, Col du Soulor, Col d’Aubisque, Col d’Azet, Col de Peyresourde, Port de Balès, Col de Portet d’Aspet, Col de Menté, Hourquette d’Ancizan, Hautacam and many many more.
This is what a weeks itinerary may look like:
Day 1 – Baronnies 60 km
Day 2 – Hourquette d’Ancizan – Col d’ Aspin 65+ KM
Day 3 – Col du Soulor & Aubisque 90km
Day 4 – Col du Tourmalet – Point D’Espagne 90km
Day 5 – Hautacam 120km
Day 6 -Port de Balés – Col de Pyresorde – Col d’Aspin
Day 7 – Col d’Azet
Each week varies however this is a good example of a typical Jelli Pyrenees week.
The accommodation on this trip is at our base in the Campan Valley, Pyrenees. The accommodation is outstanding, in a converted grange situated just off the main road, bordered by a stream. The converted grange comprises of 3 independent stone cottages that vary in size. Once back at base after a days riding you will find it is a superb location for relaxation. All the gites have recently undergone renovation that has brought them up to an excellent standard, including superior furnishings and the finest beds to ensure you get a great nights sleep to recover. Our rates are based on 2 people sharing a twin room, signal occupancy can be arranged at an additional cost.
During your stay our caterers will provided you with delicious evening meals, if you wish them to provide you with breakfast and lunch they can do that too. You will indulge in scrumptious meals that will also be appropriate nutrition to ensure you get the most out of your cycling.

On a Jelli cycling trip you don’t have a to worry – we are there for you. On this trip we provide free airport transfers to and from Toulouse airport. We will be there as you ride every day. On each of your rides you will be accompanied by an experienced rider on the road. The Jelli support car will also be on call should it be needed in the event of an irreparable mechanical problem or such other event. One of the longer rides during the week will be a fully supported days riding with the support car on hand with us all day. Lunch will also be provided for you by the Jelli crew on this days riding.
The benefit of having a support car means that there is no need to carry extras on the bike with you as you can keep them in your day-bag in the car, you can have a change of clothes in case the weather decides to take a turn or whatever else you would like to keep to hand whilst out on the bike. It also provides a safe-haven to retire to should the going get a bit tough. We will also have plenty of water and nutritional supplies on-board the car to keep you fueled up through the mountains. Additional fully supported days can be added during the trip at a cost of £150 divided between the group.
Further added to this support we will wash your cycling clothing for you when we return after the days cycling should it be required. Ensuring that you have nice clean kit to get in to.
Massages are also available should you want to enjoy a massage after a good day riding in the mountains.
Bikes & Bike Hire
This trip is designed for road bikes and riders with some experience in riding road bikes. All of the riding will be on the fantastic roads of the Pyrenees. You have the choice if you would like to bring your own bike on this trip or if you would rather you can hire one of the bikes on the Jelli fleet. Our 2015 fleet of hire bikes consists of full carbon Scott Solace 30 bikes with compact chainsets and a large cassette to aid your passage through the mountains.
The spec on these 2015 Scott Solace 30 bikes includes a fantastic full carbon frame, Shimano Ultegra groupset and Syncros components. They feature compact chainsets meaning that you have a 50-34 on the front and a cassette with a ratio of 11-28 on the rear. The bikes are available in a range of sizes; book early to ensure availability.
