Because their video from 4 years ago suggests you can move the light arm between left / right / up orientations just by hand using the magnets.

Also, arguably it would be more effective at deterring close passes if you could only see the lit element - usually the light is somewhere near the centre line of the bike so I'd wager a lot of drivers will move wider on this assumption.

Funny how all bikes have become all-rounders. No specialist bikes anymore, just one bike to rule them all. Is that just a pendulum swing or something deeper?

I am slightly concerned due to the new poles of political attraction to left and right we end up with the worst of all worlds - non-progressive policies which hand over more public goods to megacorps but don't actually save much money. I can see roads policy heading towards Reform-lite (hmm... what would change?) because the other pole (Greens) seem less concerned about this kind of thing currently and because the hard-pressed motorist is grumpier than ever (and an increasing number of drivers are older - because more old people - and they tend to vote that way). Also I wonder if public transport will take a hit - especially the larger projects. Partly because "there's no money" but also due to fallout from mismanagement of HS2.

"Reflective arm doesn't illuminate, reducing the "wide" effect at night" Surely reduces the "wide" effect during the day? At night car headlights will hopefully reflect off the reflector back at the driver illuminating the arm.
