If the thought of all the bargains is just too much, then maybe it’s a good idea to monitor your heart rate with this highly-rated chest strap from Wahoo.

This is the cheapest we can find it online right now, and if you prefer a traditional strap for measuring heart rate (and the accuracy that comes with it) the Tickr comes highly recommended. It connects to all your favourite devices and apps, tracks heart rate and calories and it weighs in at just 48g.

Small, lightweight, easy to use and reliable… just some of the positive things Rachael had to say about the Edge 130 Plus when we had it for review. In short, it’ll do all the basics of what you want from a cycling computer — tell you where you’re going, how fast etc. — now at an even more affordable price.

Down from £169.99 to £119.99 for Prime Day

Need more handy storage for tools and snacks? Fed up with your multi-tool smacking your back every time you get out the saddle? Topeak’s Aero Wedge Strap Mount Seat Pack has 19% off currently. Speaking from personal experience there’s more than enough room for tubes, tyre levers, multi-tool, keys, an emergency gel, plus more, leaving your jersey gloriously light and spares-free.

Grab one here for £13.99 from Amazon

We’ve since spotted that this bag is the same price at Wiggle, and the smaller one is also on sale too… naughty Amazon! Get one here from Wiggle for the same price, or the smaller version for £9.99 from Chain Reaction.

It certainly pays to invest in a decent lock, and while Kryptonite’s Evolution mini will eventually succumb to a bandit with a huge angle grinder (like pretty much every other bike lock on the market) it’s far, far better than average and will make the common thief armed with less impressive tools look elsewhere.

You get a 13mm hardened MAX-Performance steel shackle, a new sliding dustcover and a patent-pending double deadbolt design.

Get yours for better than half price, just £36.99

If you’re after an everyday GPS watch that will record your rides and runs, the Forerunner 55 does a lot for much less than the really high-end Garmin watches. You get plenty of bells and whistles too, like wrist-based heart rate, the Garmin Coach feature, activity tracking like steps, calories and sleep and a whole load more.

You can also get 25% off the Garmin HRM chest strap, down to £44.99 with the Prime Day deal. This is Garmin’s premium chest heart rate strap that transmits heart rate data over Bluetooth Low Energy technology as well as ANT+.

It has a battery life of around 3.5 years (with average use of 1 hour per day) and a removable heart module for washing the strap. A heart rate monitor is a useful training aid for tracking your effort level, and the data can be seen on GPS devices as well as online training platforms such as Zwift.

Ok, so they’re not Silca… but this set of 10 Draper allen keys will do for most of us and are a bit of a steal at under a tenner!

This Draper metric hex key set is made from chrome vanadium steel hardened with a blackened finish which is said to help prevent corrosion. The allen keys come with an enamelled steel stand and the T-handle design claims to maximise torque with a comfortable grip.

The sizes are 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 6, 8, and 10mm.

The main thing preventing a lot of hardened indoor cyclists from exploring Peloton was the near two-grand price tag when it launched – but a few years (and some quite bad PR) later, you can now get the original Peloton bike for just over the £1,000 mark with this Prime Day deal, bringing it down to around the same price as an advanced smart trainer – and of course, this being a smart bike you don’t need to mount your own bike to it.

If you don’t fancy signing up to the Peloton subscription and doing the workouts with a host of shouty yet motivational virtual instructors, Peloton can connect to all your favourite apps via Bluetooth too.

Welcome to the road.cc Amazon Prime Day live blog

bargains gif
bargains gif (Image Credit: Farrelly Atkinson)
bargains gif
bargains gif (Image Credit: Farrelly Atkinson)

Just like that annual materialistic mayhem that is Black Friday, Amazon Prime Day has barged itself onto a spot on the calendar, as if the online retail goliath needed any more promotion.

We’re always a bit conflicted about doing these live blogs — and while we’ve certainly got reservations about the delivery miles, mindless materialism and impact on small businesses — as a cycling website we wouldn’t be doing our job if we weren’t telling you when there are great deals and discount prices available on kit worth having.

So, if you want to, make the most of the two days of sales to bag something you were after, or in need of anyway. We certainly won’t be walking away with a van’s worth of stuff we didn’t need, but this might just be the cheapest time of the year to get that bit of kit you’ve been after for a while. Or as another alternative, you could just pay the difference and support your local bike shop…

If you didn’t know, you have to be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of these sweet sweet bargains (or sign up for a free trial and set a reminder in your phone to cancel it before the 30 days are up, we won’t tell Mr Bezos if you don’t). We’re also quite confident the products we’ve selected are genuinely priced lower than you’ll find through the rest of the year, but if you’ve spotted any of them cheaper elsewhere let us know in the comments.

* You probably guessed it but we have to tell you: we may earn affiliate commission from some of the links you click on this page. Enjoy!

    Or don’t.

    Or don’t.

Why should we support a company that fails to pay its workers a fair share, has poor employment practices and does everything it can to get out of paying its fair share of tax: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/jun/01/amazon-uk-services-main-division-pay-no-corporation-tax-for-second-year-in-row-tax-credit-government-super-deduction-scheme

A shameful company which no one who believes in society should use.

      Hear Hear!

      Hear Hear!

Every pound spent on Amazon is a pound sent out of your local economy, a pound taken away from people in your area and put into Jeff Bezos pocket. Your buying decisions are important, make them with intent.

        Also, from a cycling

Also, from a cycling perspective, Amazon’s policies for its delivery drivers of pavement, cycle lane and other dangerous parking is putting our lives at risk. Financially supporting an organisation which actively risks our lives just to save a few pounds a year is a self defeating short term view we should all be avoiding.

    Shokz (formally AfterShokz)

Shokz (formally AfterShokz) OpenMove & OpenRun headphones are 30% off during Prime Day. I find them really good for running & cycling. The “sweatproof” of the old TrekZ has never been a problem in the downpours I have run/cycled in.

(I don’t want to get involved in the support your local bike shop/big business is bad debate, just letting anyone else who can’t afford to pay full price, but still wants to get good quality product. and yes, the “good quality” is my experience, so others may have a different take on it)

@Nigel Garage The Mercedes driver drove through the light three seconds after it turned amber. Official government text: "AMBER means STOP. You may go on only if the amber appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident." Three seconds is more than enough time to stop safely at the speed the Mercedes was going so the driver was breaking the law and therefore committing a prosecutable offence. Is there anything you can't be completely wrong about?

@Nigel Garage The Mercedes driver drove through the light three seconds after it turned amber. Official government text: "AMBER means STOP. You may go on only if the amber appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident." Three seconds is more than enough time to stop safely at the speed the Mercedes was going so the driver was breaking the law and therefore committing a prosecutable offence. Is there anything you can't be completely wrong about?

I see quite a few MAAP items out in the Surrey Hills. The new shop has a cafe and they're from Melbourne so the coffee should be good: I'm looking forward to visiting.

@chrisonabike Mercedes was acceptable, but the second one (old Toyota people carrier/ex-taxi) was a prosecutable offence.

I wasn't saying that nor talking about people who say that. I said it was silly to claim that wearing a helmet indicates acceptance of dangerous driving and poor infrastructure. I choose to wear a helmet; I also regularly report dangerous driving to the police and correspond with councils and road authorities about ways infrastructure could be improved for cyclists. I rather doubt I'm the only helmet wearer who does so.

@JamieT (a pedant writes) she's a London Assembly member, not an MP.
