Zwift has unveiled a new Alpine-style climb for users who are Level 12 and above. The 12km Alpe du Zwift segment is part of the Watopia Island course and is accessed via the Mayan Jungle.

The climb is modelled on Alpe d’Huez but with a Zwift twist. Averaging 8.5% it delivers 21 hairpins and 1,036m of height gain (or, looked at another way, zero hairpins and zero height gain – but at least you get something interesting to look at).

The Level 12 Alpe Gate is marked red when locked, and green when available, but there are other ways you can ride this area of the game. You can “Ride or Run With A Friend” who is Level 12 or higher, while official Zwift events that take place there will also allow riders of any level to participate.

Four new routes will also be added to Watopia following the release of Alpe du Zwift:

  • Four Horsemen is 89.3km long with 2,112m of height gain
  • Road to Sky is 19.9km long with 1,144m of height gain
  • Tour of Fire and Ice is 25.1km long with 1,166m of height gain

That’s all the info we’ve got, so either the fourth one’s not been named yet or Zwift are not very excellent at counting.
