Gwent Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision involving a red Audi TT and a cyclist on the Queensway A4810 road between Magor and Llanwern. The 30-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The Monmouthshire Beacon reports that the incident took place at approximately 9.25pm on Wednesday July 5.
The cyclist, 28-year-old Suliman Haroun, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene and his family are currently being supported by specialist officers.
Anyone who witnessed the collision can contact police on 101 quoting 546 5/17/17.

I commute from Cardiff to Newport every day, close passes are a daily occurrence.
Another cyclist was left hooked by a lorry in Cardiff on the same day, they closed the road for hours so it’s likely she was seriously injured as well.

I’m dreadfully saddened by this incident and believe that drivers should suffer the consequences of their dangerous and criminal actions. However, I am sllghtly puzzled by the implications of the car involved being an Audi TT.
It smacks of what we cyclists are usually happy to cite as confirmation bias.
At this point should disclose that I drive an Audi – not a TT – but also drive another brand.
However, I suspect that a header of “fatal collision involving a bland off-white Subaru”, isn’t as clicky.
Deepest sympathy to family and friends. I hope the driver gets what they deserve. But I doubt it.

Oh, I think you do. Reference to the type of car in the headline seems unnecssarily click-bate-y to me. By all means have it in the article but as we all know, Audi drivers are cast in a negative light (whether rightly or wrongly) and seem to have taken the mantle from BMW drivers over the last few year. It’s easy and lazy to make the link between the type of car and the type of driving but until we know the facts, please don’t write a headline that reinforces such lazy stereotypes.

I thought the same, though maybe as they are seeking witnesses it is justified.
As someone seriously thinking about packing up road riding completely due to repeated close calls and needless aggression, this weighs heavily.
Although it doesn’t mention it, the picture seems to indicate it was on a segregated cycle path as well (not starting a cycle path debate). Poor chap was probably heading home without any concern at all.

I just don’t want road.cc going down the “cyclist dies; shooting red light, not wearing hi-viz… should have been wearing a helmet… doesn’t even pay road tax… killing pedestrians on the pavement “, strategy we see in the rest of the press.

Audi drivers are equally as bad as BMW, most drive like utter selfish pricks. Ever noticed how Audis just stay permanently in the 3rd lane of the motorway, regardless of what’s in the other lanes. (most not all). Always seem to have their front foglights on too when it’s not foggy, be11-end motorists. The Audi arsehole was probably looking at themself in the mirror.

Seriously – some people have obviously never heard of and cannot imagine that there is such a thing as confirmation bias.
It would be interesting to see the results of a survey, perhaps taken from a motorway bridge, of speeding cars. If they could be identified by make I wonder what percentage of each brand would be speeding?
Here’s a guess: A higher proportion of Audis would be found speeding than, let’s say, Suzukis.

There can’t be that many red TT’s registered in the area – or even nationwide that can be placed there – so let’s hope that Suliman his familiy get the justice they deserve. As cyclists we’re incredibly vulnerable on those roads and incidents like this bring it home. RIP and condolences.
