Lancashire Constabulary has appealed for witnesses after cyclist Jonathan Stewart Lee was killed on Freckleton Bypass on Wednesday following a collision with a Vauxhall Astra van.
The collision took place on the A584 Preston New Road at around 5.50pm with both Lee and the van travelling towards Freckleton.
Following the collision, Lee was taken to Royal Preston hospital where he sadly passed away.
Sergeant Rob Gomery from the Road Policing Team said:
“This was a tragic incident and my thoughts and those of all my team are with Jonathan’s family at this very sad and difficult time.
“I would like to appeal for any witnesses to come forward with any information that they may have about the circumstances of this collision. I am particularly interested in drivers or cyclists that may have dash or helmet cam footage that might have captured Jonathan on his bicycle or a white Vauxhall Astra van at or around the time of the collision.”
Anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting incident reference 1180 of April 26.

Sounds like another murder
Sounds like another murder where the culprit has no intention of paying £500 for his actions.
Thoughts with family and friends.

So is helmet cam footage now
So is helmet cam footage now acceptable as evidence or not and why are Hampshire Constabulary not interested in seeing it?
I used to work with Jonathan
I used to work with Jonathan a few years ago and this makes me so sad to see this. He was a great guy and will be missed. My thoughts to his family and friends.
I know that road very well,
I know that road very well, it’s fast road but also a dual carriageway most of the way so wide as well.
Either way very sad, condolences to Jonathans family.
So it’s late in the day and
So it’s late in the day and they’re heading West. I think I know where this is going.
Sun in eyes? Didn’t see him
Sun in eyes? Didn’t see him your honour?
News of this was shared on one of the local Facebook groups that the guy was a member of. They’re a really friendly bunch – just what you expect social cyclists to be. Inclusive, welcoming, good-natured – just a nice bunch of people. Really cut me up when I saw it, despite not knowing him it hits home more when it’s a local rider.
RIP
Rest in peace lad. Awful.

I could type many many words
I could type many many words about cyclists and the attitude & treatment they get…
I often say drivers who speed should have the windscreen removed, and a surprising amount are aghast at this…either that or banned for 5yrs – that’ll teach them !
Utmost thoughts and respect to his family…
