US bike firm Volagi Cycles has suspended its operations after co-founder Robert Choi was left in a coma following a collision with a vehicle during an after-work ride on Wednesday.

The company said: “ He sustained what seemed to be only minor injuries, only to later collapse at the office where his wife Lucy disovered him unconscious.

“He is currently in a coma at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah with a potential skull fracture.

It added: “Robert was also training to beat the world record for vertical mileage climbed in a 48-hour period and planned to try his record attempt this fall in California. It is incredibly difficult to see such a strong person in this condition.”

The company has also set up a Go Fund Me account to help meet Choi’s medical expenses.

In a post on its Facebook page, the company said: “At this time we need to focus on getting Robert back on his feet, and hopefully the bike, as soon as possible.”
