The Red Bull Million Mile Commute on Strava is coming on 1st July

Red Bull's Million Mile Commute is back, and this time the challenge is to collectively smash the million mile mark in just one month!...

If you joined in Red Bull's Million Mile Commute on Strava last summer, you'll know that the target of one million collective miles in three months was comprehensively smashed, with plenty of prizes won by participants along the way... well this year Red Bull are challenging us to log even more miles and get everyone on board, with the target now one million miles in just ONE month!

6 reasons to use Strava

The distances will start getting logged from the 1st of July, and to take part all you have to do is join the Red Bull UK Strava Club (link here) and then sign up for the challenge on Red Bull's website. While you're there be sure to join road.cc's Strava Club too, where we'll be discussing the challenge and calling on our own members to join in. The aim of the Million Mile Commute is to encourage commuters to cycle or run to and from work, so if you do this already then keep doin' what your doin', but be sure to log your miles on Strava via their mobile app or use a compatible device that will sync the data for you (see our comprehensive guide to GPS units if you fancy treating yourself). If you're still catching the bus or driving to work then there's no better time to ditch the traffic jams and sign up, because there are loads of prizes to be won...

For starters you can get a free month of Strava Premium just by buying a can of Red Bull, so you can analyse all the hardcore data from your commutes and get live Strava feedback to keep you motivated. When the challenge begins on the 1st you'll have to log that first mile fast, because the first 2,500 to log it will receive a Red Bull sample pack! Everyone taking part will get something special when the 100K, 500K and (hopefully) the million mile markers are reached, and reaching individual milestones will enter you into prize draws... reach 10 miles and you're in the draw for some limited edition Strava socks, reach 250 and you could win a brand spanking new Marin Fairfax SC3 courtesy of Cycle Surgery if you're really lucky.

Will the lofty million mile target be reached? Well that's up to us I guess, but with the Red Bull Strava Club now over 30,000 members strong we're up for the challenge. Get on your bikes and ride, and see you at the finish line at the end of July!

Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.

Red Bull has always seemed an odd sponsor for a commuter cycling challenge...  road.cc is currently full of adverts for it, mind.

Shame Smirnoff vodka won't co-sponsor.

Or even a brand of decent "voda"!

Belvedere, darling. Although, I won't pretend to know which are the good brands. Met a Russian doctor (also a spetznas sniper) a few years back, he'd never heard of the main brands we have here. I hear filtering it through a Brita water filter a few times improves any vodka.
