Blessing of the bikes New York style

The Lord works in mysterious ways for NY cyclists

Last Saturday saw the annual Blessing of the Bikes at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine on 112th Street & Amsterdam Avenue, New York city.

This is the 12th time this has taken place and beforehand according to organizer Glen Goldstein, "Our friend Reverend Tom will say a few kind words and then sprinkle our bikes with Holy Water. There is a moment of silence to remember those cyclists we’ve lost in the past year, a chance for everyone to ring their bicycle bells in celebration of cycling, and we’re gone."

Glen is at pains to point out that the event is for "all faiths or lack thereof". In fact, "I happen to be Jewish - go figure."
