Fantastic ride this evening through the Chew valley, around Chew Lake and through picturesque villages. 30 miles of undulating roads in baking conditions, fortunately I didn’t do my usual thing, which is head down and forget to drink; I hydrated well with a combination of Lucozade sport and water

I had to dodge masses of traffic on a short section of the A37 between country roads; people returning from Glastonbury.

I have been off the bike for a couple of weeks so this was great for getting some memory back in my legs before commuting again. My legs seemed pretty good despite not being in good shape, but that aside it was great to be out in the rolling hills.

My trusted 2004 Allez Elite with off the peg spec is still going strong, “touch wood” the only mechanical I have ever had in 5 years are flat tyres! Now that’s incredibly lucky because this bike has seen some serious miles! You have to ask the question, should I give it a major service or leave be? If it’s not broke……
