The Maxxis’ Shorty has gained a serious fan base for its impressive versatility in the wet and for its quick mud-shedding. For 2021, the Shorty gets a revamp with the aim of making it an even more capable aggressive tyre.

Back in December, we tested the previous generation of the Shorty and gave it a very respectable 4.5 stars as it ticked all boxes as a tyre for the UK’s winter conditions, providing reliable grip from damp right through to sopping wet. See the full review here.

With the feedback from Maxxis’ top World Cup DH and Enduro World Series riders, the Gen 2 model of the mid-spiked tyre gets a slightly new tread pattern. Where previously there were double-wide centre knobs, they have split and drifted apart. They now make up two completely separate knobs. There has also been a bunch of support added to the shoulder knobs, says Maxxis.

The knobs on the Shorty Gen 2 get revised siping which should offer better braking and cornering traction. Then the tyre has had raised ridges on the casings which the brand says, have been added to aid mud clearance even further.

The tyre also comes in a brand new 2.4″ width which Maxxis says should provide better mud clearance and reduced weight.
