Historically known for its pioneering drones and camera technology, DJI has entered the e-mountain bike space not only announcing its new Avinox motor but also a complete Ampflow e-MTB. And the brand isn’t doing things by halves either as it says the the motor outputs 105Nm of torque and weighs 19.2kg. Here’s everything we know about DJI’s surprise entry into e-mountain biking.

Let’s kick things off with DJI’s new motor. The brand says that it was a natural move to step into this space and we’re told that the Avinox weighs 2.52kg while delivering 105Nm of torque. This is done through the use of a compound planetary gearset and high-performance polymer gears to balance size, weight, output and apparently, a quiet ride.
The Avinox uses DJI’s Smart-Assist Algorithm that uses information from multiple sensors which automatically adjusts assistance based on riding resistance. there are also four standard assist modes including, Auto, Eco, Trail and Turbo. Riders can also activate Boost mode for even more power with 120Nm and 1000W at their disposal.
This system boasts two battery options, 600Wh and 800Wh, both of which use GaN 3x fast-charging tech which means that the 800Wh battery can be charged from empty to 75 per cent in an hour and a half. There’s also a two-inch OLED touchscreen display.
With the new motor, DJI has also introduced the Amflow PL, an e-MTB that utilises the Avinox motor. The bike is built around a carbon frame that the brand says weighs 2.27kg.
Otherwise, the bike is a completely modern affair, accommodating both 650b and 29-inch rear wheels through a simple flip-chip and there’s a four-bar linkage which reduces pedal kickback and balances pedalling efficiency.
As for suspension, the Amflow gets its squish from Fox and it’s been tuned especially for the bike.
The Ampflow will be available in three models with the Amflow PL Carbon coming with an 800Wh battery, the Ampflow PL Carbon PRo getting a 600Wh battery with an 800Wh option.
