Sufferfest training videos available on Strava

Sufferest training videos now available on Strava website as well as mobile app

A few months ago Strava announced its partnership with Sufferfest, and made the unique training videos available to premium members through its mobile app. Now the videos have been added to the website so more people can access them.

There are currently three videos, Fight Club, Revolver and Rubber Glove, available through the Android and Apple iOS app, or through the Strava website. The training videos are unique in that they combine actual race footage with music and instructions to enliven your turbo trainer sessions. If you need visual motivation to keep turning the pedals, these videos work a treat. Strava says it will be releasing more videos over time as soon as possible.

I tried the Revolver video and it worked smoothly on my Samsung tablet. Propping up a tablet in front of the turbo trainer isn't ideal though, certainly not as easy as using a laptop placed on a table in front of the bicycle. As with the videos previously only available through the app, you have to record the activity separately.

There’s nothing to stop you buying individual Sufferfest videos already of course (Dave reviewed Downward Spiral a while back) , but if you’re currently a Strava premium member this is a nice bit of added value to your yearly subscription, especially as we head into the winter.

And don't forget, if you are on Strava then make sure to join the road.cc club and share your rides with the community.

More at www.strava.com. The videos are found under the Training tab on the main website.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

Its all good - got the Cyclops Fluid2 with bike and ANT+ speed/cadence/HRM feeding Peri Pedal on the laptop main screen - with a second screen on a shelf with Strava on firefox. Select a workout, go for it, then save activity straight into Strava. Easy peasy, and works on my ancient old Dell D830 on XP with a Suunto ANT+ usb dongle.

Do you have to be a premium member to get the videos?

So, just spoken to Strava, it's not actually on the Apple app yet, but apparently it will be imminently - I'll post here when I get word that it has been added

Would be nicer if it supported Win8 devices, mobile and tablet.

Looks like I'm running the latest Strava app on iphone, and I can't see it. Then again, I don't really know where I'm meant to be looking? If it comes under the 'more' tab, then its not there for me. I'm running the first installment of iOS7, yet to install iOS 7.0.2.

I'll check with Strava about iOS - in the training videos info page I'm looking at now it says 'Android and iPhone apps' - I'm only able to view it on android, where it's on the main drop down right under challenges. Are you sure you've got the latest version of Strava? I had to update mine

Its not on iOS yet... nor is it in their knowledge base for iOS.
Guess we'll have to keep waiting!

Great news, but maybe I'm being thick but I don't get it. You can play the sufferfest video via the app, but you'll need to record via a device that measures cadence to log the activity. So is all the app doing just playing back the video?

Just pick yourself up a bluetooth cadence sensor or HR monitor and pair to your phone, you can set which devices you have in the strava settings.

This could be another bonus for the Stages Cycling power meter as it has dual Bluetooth and Ant+ connectivity; might have to pull the trigger on that purchase!
I don't see anything on IOS either and maybe they need to release an IPad app for those who don't have AppleTV/Airplay.
